Stuttgart have confirmed Sebastian Hoeness has extended his contract until the end of the 2027-28 season.

Hoeness took charge of Stuttgart in 2023 and after keeping them up via a relegation play-off, he guided them to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga in his first full season in charge.

Stuttgart could not progress beyond the first round of the Champions League this term, while they sit 10th in Germany's top tier with eight games remaining.

Hoeness' performances saw him linked with the Bayern Munich job before they appointed Vincent Kompany, but he has now elected to commit his future to Stuttgart.

"When I joined Stuttgart almost two years ago, the sporting situation was challenging, with us in 18th place in the table," he said.

"The move felt like the right thing to do back then, and it feels just as right to extend my contract now.

"At all levels of the club, we want and must continue to give our all to ensure long-term success.

"This also includes further developing and strengthening our team. We want to be able to permanently claim to be represented in international competition."

Since Hoeness took charge on April 3, 2023, Stuttgart have won 36 Bundesliga matches. Only Bayern (47), Bayer Leverkusen (46) and RB Leipzig (37) have won more games in the competition in that time.

Stuttgart have scored 141 league goals under Hoeness – just Bayern (185) and Leverkusen (157) have scored more goals in the competition since he took over.
