A five-wicket haul from Ronaldo Alimohamed and a half-century from Matthew Nandu led a spirited fightback by the Guyana Harpy Eagles on day two of their sixth-round West Indies Championship fixture against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes at Warner Park in St. Kitts on Thursday.
The Hurricanes entered day two 143-4 in 33 overs, trailing the Harpy Eagles by 50 runs on first innings with Keacy Carty and Jahmar Hamilton not out on 20 and three, respectively.
Their partnership on Wednesday was 12 and they added a further 138 on Thursday to bring the score up to 293 before Carty fell eight runs short of what would’ve been an excellent hundred.
His 92 came off 182 balls and included 12 fours. Hamilton went on to make 80 off 124 balls before his dismissal in the 72nd over started a collapse that saw the final four wickets fall for just 40 runs in eight overs.
They were dismissed for 335 in 79.3 overs, giving them a 132-run lead over the Harpy Eagles on first innings.
Alimohamed finished with 5-91 in 19.3 overs while Nial Smith had 3-62 in 15 overs in support.
The Harpy Eagles then ended day two 137-1 in 42 overs, leading by five runs.
Matthew Nandu has, so far, made 53* off 127 balls while Raymond Perez earlier made 49.
Kevlon Anderson also ended the day 31* off 55 balls.
