With anticipation building for Australia’s first tour to Jamaica in a decade, Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) President Dr. Donovan Bennett has confirmed that the installation of upgraded floodlights and a state-of-the-art scoreboard at Sabina Park is progressing on schedule. The upgrades are essential for the venue to host the historic day/night pink-ball Test match between West Indies and Australia, set for July 12–16, 2025.

In a brief interview with Sportsmax.TV, Dr. Bennett assured cricket fans that despite minor logistical concerns, the infrastructure enhancements are moving ahead as planned.

“Everything is on track,” Dr. Bennett stated. “The lights are on the ocean now, coming in from England. The only concern is a potential backup at the port where ships may have to wait to dock. But outside of that, we’re in a good place.”

The high-tech scoreboard, manufactured and tested in India, is also set to arrive by early May, while the lights are expected by mid-April, pending shipping logistics. According to Dr. Bennett, the timeline remains “comfortable,” and unless there are unforeseen delays, preparations will be completed in time for the much-anticipated Test.

This confirmation follows a high-level meeting held recently between Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO Chris Dehring and Jamaica’s Minister of Sport, the Honourable Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange. The discussions were centered around Jamaica’s readiness to host the Test and the broader goal of strengthening cricket infrastructure, including grassroots development for both boys and girls.

“I am extremely pleased with the intent shown by the Minister of Sport and the Government of Jamaica to collaborate with Cricket West Indies ahead of the Australia tour,” Dehring said. “We’re grateful for the support recently announced to assist the JCA in purchasing and installing the new lights. This Test will be the first day/night pink-ball match ever held in Jamaica, and we’re confident fans will have an unforgettable experience.”

The Australia Test will be part of a larger tour that includes T20 internationals, but the day/night format marks a significant step forward for Sabina Park’s modernization. It is also expected to re-energize local cricket interest and tourism, given Australia’s status as one of the sport’s marquee teams.

Dr. Bennett concluded by reaffirming the JCA’s commitment: “We’ve done all that we can do, and we’re watching the timeline carefully. So far, so good.”
