The Dubai Capitals advanced to the final of the 2025 ILT20 after securing a five-wicket victory over the Desert Vipers on Wednesday. Despite the win, West Indies stars Rovman Powell and Shai Hope had minimal contributions in the match.
Batting first, the Desert Vipers posted a competitive 189-7 in their 20 overs, powered by Alex Hales' explosive 67 off 32 balls and contributions from Max Holden (36) and Dan Lawrence (35). However, Dubai Capitals bowlers, led by Qais Ahmad (2-29) and Gulbadin Naib (2-25), restricted the Vipers from accelerating further in the latter half of the innings.
Gulbadin Naib took 2-25 and scored a crucial 62 for Dubai Capitals (ILT20)
In response, Dubai Capitals chased down the target in 19.3 overs, reaching 193-5. Adam Rossington gave them a solid start with 44 off 31 balls, while Gulbadin Naib anchored the chase with a commanding 62 off 39 deliveries. Captain Sam Billings played a fiery cameo, smashing 38 off just 16 balls to propel the team towards victory.
Shai Hope, opening the innings, struggled to make an impact and was dismissed for 17 off 17 balls, caught by Khuzaima Tanveer off Wanindu Hasaranga’s bowling. Rovman Powell, coming in at No. 5, contributed 20 runs from 13 balls before being caught by Mohammad Amir off the bowling of David Payne.
Despite the West Indian duo's underwhelming performances, the Dubai Capitals' middle order ensured a comfortable victory, sealing their spot in the ILT20 final.
Dubai Capitals will now await their final opponent as they look to claim the championship title. With key players stepping up at crucial moments, the Capitals remain strong contenders for the prestigious trophy
