West Indies captain Hayley Matthews, along with teammates Shemaine Campbelle and Afy Fletcher, made significant gains in the latest ICC Women’s ODI player rankings, following their impactful showing in the opening contest of their three-match series against Bangladesh.
Matthews, fresh off a match-winning century against their South Asia opponents, jumped four places to a career-best fifth in the batting rankings. Her unbeaten 104 saw the Caribbean side to a comfortable nine-wicket win in that opening encounter of the ICC Women’s Championship (IWC) series.
Meanwhile, Campbelle’s solid contributions with the bat saw her rise one spot to 52nd, and Fletcher’s improved bowling performance lifted her four places to 28th.
Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner reclaimed the number one spot among ODI all-rounders and reached a career-high 10th in the batting rankings after her decisive century in the third Ashes ODI against England. Gardner’s run-a-ball 102, not only secured victory for Australia but also earned her a career-best 469 rating points as an all-rounder, surpassing South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp.
Gardner, who achieved career-best rankings across all ODI categories this month, continues to be a dominant force. Her recent exploits also included a second-place position among bowlers, which underscores her standing as one of the most complete players in the game.
India’s Smriti Mandhana climbed to second in the batting rankings after her brilliant 135 against Ireland, while her opening partner, Pratika Rawal, rose 12 places to 53rd following her maiden century.
Bangladesh’s Sharmin Akhter moved up four places to 41st, and Australia’s Tahlia McGrath advanced six spots to 23rd.
In the bowling rankings, India’s Deepti Sharma moved up to fourth, while Australia’s Kim Garth (up to sixth) and Alana King (up to seventh) made significant strides. Fletcher’s rise to 28th ensures West Indies continue to have a growing influence in the rankings.
Meanwhile, India’s 3-0 series sweep over Ireland secured them second place in the IWC standings with 37 points, behind champions Australia on 39 points. England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka also secured direct qualification for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
Bangladesh’s loss to the West Indies in the first ODI leaves them with 19 points and must win the remaining two matches to overtake New Zealand (21 points) for the final direct berth.
The second fixture in the series bowls off on Tuesday.
