The West Indies Women will begin their quest for a spot in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 when they face Scotland on the opening day of the Qualifier, which bowls off on April 9 in Pakistan. The two sides will clash at the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground, while hosts Pakistan take on Ireland at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in the other opening-day fixture.
This sixth edition of the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier runs from April 9 to 19 and will see four Full Member teams—Bangladesh, Ireland, Pakistan, and the West Indies—compete alongside Associate Members Scotland and Thailand in a 15-match league tournament. The top two teams will secure their spots in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup later this year.
Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka have already sealed their places in the World Cup by virtue of finishing in the top six of the ICC Women’s Championship (2022–25), alongside hosts India.
The Qualifier features teams that finished between seventh and 10th in the Championship—Bangladesh, Ireland, Pakistan, and the West Indies—as well as the two highest-ranked sides from the ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings as of October 28, 2024, which are Thailand and Scotland.
By all indications, the tournament promises several mouthwatering encounters, with the West Indies set to face Pakistan under lights at the Gaddafi Stadium on April 14, and a showdown against Bangladesh at the LCCA on April 17. The group stage wraps up with a clash between sub-continental rivals Pakistan and Bangladesh at the LCCA on April 19.
ICC CEO Geoff Allardice expressed his excitement about the competition.
“The six competing teams are just one step away from the Women’s Cricket World Cup, and I am sure they will all be eagerly looking forward to the competition. On behalf of the ICC, I would like to wish the teams all the best for the tournament in Lahore as part of the build-up to the Cricket World Cup later this year," Allardice said.
