• Jayden Seales’ sensational 4-for-5 puts West Indies in control against Bangladesh

  Jayden Seales delivered a spell for the ages as the West Indies took command of the second Test against Bangladesh at Sabina Park on Sunday. Seales returned remarkable figures of 15.5-10-5-4, the most economical spell in Test cricket since 1977 (minimum 60 balls), to help bowl out Bangladesh for 164. By stumps, the West Indies had reached 70 for 1, trailing by just 94 runs with Kraigg Brathwaite unbeaten on 33.

  The day began with Bangladesh at 69 for 2, but a spectacular collapse triggered by Shamar Joseph and capped by Seales’ precision left the visitors reeling. Shamar's fiery spell tore through the middle order, claiming 3 for 49 in a 34-ball blitz that reduced Bangladesh to 98 for 6.

  Shamar first broke a patient 73-run stand between Shadman Islam (64) and Shahadat Hossain (22), clean-bowling Shahadat. He then removed Jaker Ali with a well-directed short ball, inducing a top edge that was safely caught by Joshua Da Silva behind the stumps. Shamar followed that by finding the edge of Shadman’s bat, giving Da Silva his fourth catch of the innings.

  

  Brathwaite is unbeaten on 33 at stumps

  Seales struck immediately after, dismissing Litton Das (1) at first slip to keep the pressure on. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (36) and Taijul Islam (10) briefly resisted with a stubborn partnership of 41, frustrating the West Indies bowlers with their defiance over 116 balls.

  After the stand was broken by Alzarri Joseph, Seales cleaned up the tail clinically. He removed Taskin Ahmed, whose attempted pull lobbed to Alick Athanaze at second slip via a deflection off Da Silva. Mehidy then top-edged a hook to fine leg, and Seales wrapped up the innings by uprooting Nahid Rana's leg stump.

  The West Indies’ reply began cautiously, with the Bangladeshi seamers maintaining tight lines. Mikyle Louis fell early to Nahid Rana for 12, but Brathwaite and Keacy Carty (21)* steadied the innings. Taijul Islam bowled seven maidens in his ten overs, extracting turn and bounce from the surface, but the West Indies openers remained resolute until bad light forced early stumps for the second day in a row.

  Seales’ brilliant display has given the West Indies the upper hand as they aim to build a significant first-innings lead on day three. With Brathwaite and Carty well-set, the hosts will look to press home their advantage and secure a commanding position in the match.

   

• Rauf breaks Pakistan record in 57-run win over Zimbabwe

  Haris Rauf became Pakistan's all-time leading wicket-taker in T20Is as he starred in a 57-run win over Zimbabwe.

  Pakistan tallied up 165-4 from their 20 innings in Bulawayo on Sunday, with Usman Khan and Tayyab Tahir top-scoring with 39 each, the latter going unbeaten in the opening match of a three-game series.

  Rauf and Pakistan's bowlers then took centre-stage, with Abrar Ahmed (3-28) bowling Brian Bennett and Dion Myers in the third over, before Tadiwanashe Marumani (33) was run out in the ninth.

  Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza offered some resistance with a stubborn 39, but Rauf sent Ryan Burl packing and Clive Madande was taken out by Sufiyan Muqeem, who took 3-20.

  Wellington Masakadz scored just five before Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani and Trevor Gwandu were all dismissed for ducks as Pakistan wrapped up a comfortable victory.

  Rauf started Sunday's match level with Shadab Khan on 107 T20I wickets for Pakistan, and his figures of 2-17 ensured he now has the all-time record all to himself on 109.

  Pakistan have won only one of their last eight multigame bilateral T20I series (D2 L5) – a 2-1 victory against Ireland (May 2024). They have lost each of their two series since then, the last time they recorded a longer losing run was a span of three from February to November in 2019, so they made a good start in their bid to snap that record.

  Pooran, who has been in exceptional form this season, smashed 72 not out off just 33 balls, featuring four fours and five towering sixes. He combined with Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who blasted a rapid 51 from 24 balls with five fours and three sixes, in a blistering opening partnership of 124 runs off 51 balls. The dynamic duo laid the foundation for a commanding total of 147-2 from their 10 overs. Mohammad Zahid was the only bowler to make a mark for the Samp Army, picking up 2-31 from his two overs.

  Chasing a steep target of 148, the Morrisville Samp Army never truly recovered from the scoreboard pressure. Despite brief resistance from Andries Gous (22 off 14 balls) and Faf du Plessis (21 off 10 balls), the required rate of nearly 15 runs per over proved insurmountable. Pooran was instrumental behind the stumps as well, stumping Gous, running out Du Plessis, and taking a sharp catch to dismiss Imad Wasim (9). Jack Taylor (25 not out) and Rohan Mustafa (13 not out) offered late resistance, but the Samp Army’s innings fizzled out at 102-5, handing the Gladiators a dominant 45-run victory.

  The Gladiators’ bowlers were clinical in defending the total. Usman Tariq returned economical figures of 2-19, while Richard Gleeson was sensational, conceding just four runs and picking up one wicket in his spell.
