Raymond Richards etched his name into the history books on Friday by winning Jamaica’s first medal at the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. The 23-year-old high jumper soared to a height of 2.28 metres to secure the bronze medal in a dramatic final.
Richards, competing in his first global senior championship final, matched the clearance of New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr, but had to settle for third place on countback. The gold medal was claimed by South Korea’s Sanghyeok Woo, who cleared 2.31 metres to win on fewer attempts.
Jamaica will be hoping to build on Richards' success as the competition continues throughout the weekend.
