Reggae Boyz defender Alvas Powell is now an FC Cincinnati player, having signed a one-year contract on the back of his exit from the Portland Timbers after six seasons.

The Portland Timbers and Atlanta United moved into the 2018 MLS Cup after advancing from contrasting conference finals on Thursday.

The Timbers managed to secure a 3-2 win over Sporting Kansas City at Children's Mercy Park in the second leg of the Western Conference Finals.

That was enough to send Portland into a second MLS Cup after the first leg finished 0-0.

Sporting opened the scoring in the 20th minute as Daniel Salloi tucked away a cross from Diego Rubio.

But the Timbers struck twice early in the second half to take control of the tie, including a stunning equaliser from Sebastian Blanco.

Blanco received a pass from Jorge Villafana on the left before cutting inside and unleashing an incredible strike into the top corner from 30 yards.

Diego Valeri was stunned by Blanco's brilliant goal, before he put the Timbers ahead in the 61st minute.

Blanco's pass put in Jeremy Ebobisse, who was denied by goalkeeper Tim Melia, but Valeri was on hand to head in the rebound.

Gerso Fernandes' goal with nine minutes remaining made for a tense finish, but Valeri sealed Portland's win deep into additional time.

Atlanta will host the MLS Cup on December 8 after seeing out a 3-1 aggregate win over the New York Red Bulls despite a 1-0 loss in the second leg.

The Red Bulls needed until the 94th minute to break the deadlock through Tim Parker as Atlanta won the Eastern Conference Finals in just their second season.

Jamaica international Darren Mattocks will end his stint with Major League Soccer (MLS) club DC United, despite having the best league season of his professional career.

The 28-year-old scored 10 goals in 21 appearances for DC United after scoring five goals in his first 10 appearances.  The problems for the forward, however, surfaced after the arrival of former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney who regulated the player to a bench role.

The need to remain a starter will force the player, who joined the club earlier this season, to seek first team football opportunities elsewhere.

“He was pretty clear he wanted to play regularly,” DC United General Manager Dave Kasper said.

“With Wayne here, it was always going to be hard for him to get onto the field."

Mattocks, who was not offered a contract extension, is eligible for the MLS reentry draft next month.  The Jamaica will be among several players not returning next season. United announced Wednesday that it has declined contract options on three regulars Yamil Asad, Nick DeLeon and Kofi Opare and and six reserves, Ian Harkes, Vytautas Andriuskevicius, Kevin Ellis, Jared Jeffrey, Dane Kelly and Bruno Miranda.

Jamaica international Kemar Lawrence has been listed as day-to-day after suffering a knee injury in training for the New York Red Bull, ahead of Friday’s second leg Conference finals play-off against Atlanta United.

The 26-year-old Lawrence, a staple at left back for the Major League Soccer (MLS) club, missed the first game of the Conference finals after damaging his meniscus in training.  Connor Lade stepped in to fill the role but the Red Bulls were soundly beaten 3-0 in the first leg.

Ahead of a steep second leg assignment for the Red Bulls it is hoped the defender will be able to take some part in the contest.

“Kemar is a big part of things around here. He has had a great year, we all know that,” Red Bulls head coach Chris Armas said.

“Maybe he will be back for Leg 2, we’ll see, he is day-to-day. But more importantly, Connor Lade stepped in and did a good job. He was solid. He gave everything like we knew that he would. It was a big test, a lot of direct play. He was fearless on the night. Connor stood up admirably, I believe.”

Kemar Lawrence will join Jamaica’s squad for the Reggae Boyz Nation’s League encounter against Suriname brimming with confidence after he was named in the MLS Best 11 for 2018.
