Waterhouse FC whipped Arnett Gardens 4-1 and to climb into third spot following their Jamaica Premier League match at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence on Saturday.
The Marcel Gayle-coach Waterhouse from Drewsland are now 13 points and with two games remaining are just a point behind Vere United and Mount Pleasant.
The result also meant that Arnett Gardens have eliminated from playoff contention as with just seven points from eight games, they are six points adrift of the last playoff spot held by Dunbeholden FC on 13 points.
Waterhouse owed their impressive victory in part to substitute Man of the Match Andre Fletcher, who came on at the start of the second half to score in the 51st and 54th minutes. He now scored five goals, the same number as Andrew Vanzie of Humble Lion and one behind top scorer Oquassa Chong of Harbour View.
Earlier, Shaquille Bradford had given Waterhouse a 20th minute lead with a glancing header from a Denardo Thomas cross. Arnett Gardens pulled level courtesy of Renaldo Cephas, who converted a penalty in the 25th minute after referee Daneon Parchment ruled that defender Kymani Campbell had handled the ball inside the box.
Campbell made amends after providing an assist for Damion Binns, who uses his body and steer the ball home on the stroke of halftime. He made a surging run and earned a penalty that Fletcher dispatched from the spot for his second goal.
