Harrogate boss Simon Weaver labelled his players a “team of heroes” after a commanding 3-0 home win over Yorkshire neighbours Bradford.
Weaver’s side ended a run of eight games without a win thanks to Josh March, George Thomson and a Daniel Oyegoke own goal.
The victory was also secured in front of a record Wetherby Road crowd of 3,905 and a proud Weaver said: “It was a derby game that is full of magnitude and means a lot to us and the people of Harrogate, so I’m really pleased that every one of the lads put in a committed display and they were a team of heroes today.
“Our form has been great away from home, but we haven’t had enough convincing performances in front of our own fans in recent months, so it was good to see that we were an attacking threat throughout and we had all the ingredients you need to be a top side.
“I want us to gain some positive momentum from this game now until the end of the season. We had a record crowd for the match and I don’t think anyone will have gone away from the stadium feeling that anyone in a Harrogate Town shirt didn’t want it enough today.
“Hopefully, through word of mouth, those who came to this match will encourage others to come and see what we’re trying to achieve at the club.”
Away fans vented their frustration during a sorry second-half showing from their side, with last season’s play-off semi-finalists having plummeted to 17th in the League Two table following four straight defeats.
The last three have seen 11 goals conceded and just one scored, with manager Graham Alexander saying: “The supporters are angry because we went close last season and this season things have not panned out as anyone would have hoped.
“But scorelines are also important and we’ve not been on the end of scorelines like the last three since I’ve been here. We’ve always been in games until the final whistle and we’ll see now who gives up and who has the strength to say they want to be part of this club long term because, when you go a goal down, you’re looking for a response and, while we got that today from certain players, we didn’t get it from the group as a whole.
“We had a great chance to equalise to give us that spark, but didn’t take it and that lack of a cutting edge has been a recurring theme.
The league table shows that we don’t score enough goals to win games or relieve the pressure when we make defensive mistakes.”

And Rodgers was pleased by the character his players demonstrated.
"I thought this was an opportunity to show our mentality," he told Premier Sports. "All the noise has been about Dortmund, but I wanted a Champions League mentality here, and I thought the boys controlled the game.
"We wanted to keep our rhythm going. You see some of the guys coming in this evening, like Valle coming in at left-back, showing his composure.
"Most were looking at it as a tick-box before Dortmund, but for me, it was to show their mentality. Everyone will be flying on Tuesday night, but I want to see how they do when they’re here, or other grounds. It’s a case of just focusing in on that.
"I thought the variety of our game was very good; everything you'd want from your team."
Looking ahead to Tuesday's clash with Bundesliga giants Dortmund, he added: "[They] are a good team with top players, so we can't get away from that.
"OK, they've lost one or two [players] from last year, but I always say we make sure we press, make sure we attack. It's a tough game, but we'll look forward to it."
Osasuna 4-2 Barcelona: Budimir brace condemns LaLiga leaders to first defeat
Barcelona suffered their first LaLiga defeat of the season after going down 4-2 against Osasuna at Estadio El Sadar.
Ante Budimir scored twice, while Bryan Zaragoza and substitute Abel Bretones were also on target for the hosts, who claimed their first league win over the Blaugrana in nine attempts.
Osasuna were unbeaten in their six previous home league games and took an 18th-minute lead when Budimir nodded home from Zaragoza's cross.
The latter, who is on loan from Bayern Munich, doubled the advantage 10 minutes later when he rounded off a swift counter.
Pau Victor halved the deficit eight minutes after the restart, but Budimir's 72nd-minute penalty put the hosts back in control, before Bretones made it 4-1 with seven minutes remaining.
Lamine Yamal climbed off the bench to reduce Barca's arrears, but it was a consolation for Hansi Flick's side, who dropped their first points this term.

Al Kholood 2-4 Al-Hilal: Koulibaly on target as champions move to summit
Al-Hilal withstood a late Al Kholood rally to move top of the Saudi Pro League following a 4-2 victory at King Abdullah Sport City Stadium.
The damage was done during a late first-half surge by the reigning champions, who leapfrogged Al-Ittihad to the summit of the table.
Al-Hilal broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through former Napoli and Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who finished after Renan Lodi initially struck the woodwork.
Malcom doubled the lead four minutes later, then Ali Al Bulayhi made it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time.
Former Atletico Madrid and Nottingham Forest defender Lodi then got in the act to make it four within three minutes of the restart.
The hosts finished the contest the stronger of the two sides with Hammam Al Hammami and a William Troost-Ekong penalty halving the deficit, but that rally could not prevent the visitors from remaining perfect after their first five games.

Al-Hilal have won each of their opening five games in a Saudi Pro League season for the third time in their history, also achieving the feat in 2010-11 and 2018-19.
