Jurgen Klopp hailed Liverpool's reaction to the concession of an early goal after they came from behind to beat Manchester United 4-2 at Old Trafford.
The Reds looked set for another disappointing visit to the home of their bitter rivals when Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring after just 10 minutes on Thursday evening.
But goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah either side of a Roberto Firmino brace rendered a further Marcus Rashford effort irrelevant and handed Liverpool their first Old Trafford win since 2014.
And it was the mental strength shown in the aftermath of the early setback that most pleased Klopp.
He told Sky Sports: "We reacted really well on their goal, it was unlucky in that moment but it was a bit like we started the game to be honest.
"The defending in that moment, letting Bruno, half right side, coming inside - there was nobody.
"He could have used his left, could've used the outside of his right foot and it was unlucky in the centre but the defending in that moment wasn't good.
"They overloaded the wings obviously and we didn't adapt well to that in the first 15 minutes or so.
"Then we got control and from that moment on we could play what we want to play. That was absolutely okay and second half even better.
"Great fight, good game, intense, how a derby should be, and since I'm at Liverpool the first win at Old Trafford.
"Good timing, I would say! We needed it, we fought hard for it, we deserved it and so all good."
Chelsea's defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday opened the door for Liverpool to claim a place in the Champions League spots with four wins from their last four games of this season.
But, while it is one down as far as that aim is concerned, Klopp is expecting the remaining three Premier League fixtures to throw up plenty of challenges.
"It was necessary. Without this result we don't have to talk too much about it," he added.
"We are still in the race, that's all that we could have done tonight, we did that and now we have a very intense period playing the next three games in a week.
"In three days West Brom, Burnley with supporters, and then Crystal Palace at home, which we are looking forward to for different reasons because our supporters are there then hopefully.
"We have to recover quickly and to go again."
If there was one small blot on a good evening for Liverpool, it was an apparent spat between Klopp and substitute Sadio Mane at full-time.
Asked about the Senegalese's refusal to acknowledge his manager when leaving the pitch, he said: "There's no problem.
"Yesterday I made a late decision in training to decide Diogo. I explain things usually but there was no time for that.
"That's all. It's all fine."
Bayern Munich agree deal to sign Bryan Zaragoza from Granada for 2024-25
Bayern Munich have agreed a five-year deal to sign Bryan Zaragoza from Granada ahead of the 2024-25 season.
The 22-year-old Spain international joined the LaLiga side from Conejito de Malaga in 2019 and began his senior career on loan for a season with Ejido before returning to Granada, where he has so far made 51 appearances during his time there.
This season he has featured in 14 league games for Granada, who are currently second-from-bottom in the table, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
He made his senior Spain debut in October against Scotland in the Euro 2024 qualifiers and Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund revealed the forward has been on the club’s radar.
Speaking about the move, Freund said: “Bryan Zaragoza is an explosive, very quick and extremely nimble winger, who can play on either side. He’s unpredictable, can score and is very good one-on-one.
“He’s already made his senior debut for Spain this year and has a lot of potential. Bryan is one of Spain’s up-and-coming players and has been on our radar for a while.
“He’ll increase our attacking options. We wish him the best of luck for the rest of the season with Granada and look forward to him joining us in the summer.”
T&T miss out on Gold Cup prelims after 0-1 defeat to Mexico in Group A of League A
Trinidad and Tobago missed out on a spot in next year's Concacaf Women's Gold preliminary stage, as they went down 0-1 to Mexico in their final Group A fixture in League A of the Gold Cup qualifiers at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on Tuesday night.
Needing a win to secure second position in the group, the Soca Ladies fought gallantly, but couldn't take what would have been a famous three points off the Mexicans, who had the all-important strike through Cristina Ferral.
With the win, Mexico topped the group with maximum 12 points from four games and join Costa Rica, Panama, United States and Canada, among others in the Group stages of the inaugural Women's Gold Cup. Puerto Rico, with four points, secured a berth in the preliminary stage, while Trinidad and Tobago end with a solitary point in the three-team group.
Despite an expected dominant first half display, Mexico had to wait until the latter stages of the half to break the deadlock, and they did so in style.
Ferral collected a ball out outside the area and smashed a right-footed strike into the top right corner in the 40th minute.
The visitors tried desperately to add to their lead in the second stanza but found Trinidad and Tobago's defenders and goalkeeper Simone Eligon in a defiant mode.
In fact, Eligon produced a diving save to deny Jacqueline Ovalle's 63rd-minute effort, and she again came up big with another series of saves in the final quarter-hour to keep her side in it.
But her efforts were in vain as the twin island failed to get on target, and, as such, Mexico snared all three points.
Euro 2024 ticket delay for Scotland fans after technical error
Scotland fans have suffered more frustration in the process of buying Euro 2024 tickets after a blunder delayed the much-awaited start of the sale.
The Tartan Army were still reeling from the sobering impact of the ticket prices for the opening match with Germany following the high of Saturday’s draw, when the sale was called off less than an hour before it was due to start at noon on Wednesday.
Scotland Supporters Club members with 12 or more loyalty points were due to be sent codes to use on UEFA’s ticket portal on the morning of the sale but too many received it.
An email to fans read: “Due to a technical error, UEFA EURO 2024 codes have been sent out to Scotland Supporters Club members who are not eligible to buy tickets at this stage.
“As a result of this error, the sale scheduled for 12 noon will be delayed until further notice while we liaise with UEFA to resolve the issue.
“The Scottish FA would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to supporters at this time. We will communicate further information on the sales schedule as soon it is available.”
Members with 12 points were due to get a 24-hour period to purchase tickets before the offer is extended to those on 11 points but fans had been gearing up to apply at noon in a bid to get the less expensive tickets.
UEFA has allocated 10,000 tickets to fans of each nation for each game in the tournament.
However, the tickets vary in price and the opening match against Germany in Munich on June 14 comes at a huge premium.
Tickets range from 50 to 600 euros for the game, which makes them significantly more expensive than all the other group stage matches.
Only about 3,000 tickets are available to Scotland fans at the lower rate, with 3,435 tickets costing 195 euros. The next 2,541 fans will have to pay 400 euros and more than 1,000 supporters face paying 600 euros (about £514) to get in.
