Lionel Scaloni has not ruled out trying to "convince" Angel Di María to reverse his Argentina retirement decision after the 2024 Copa America.
The 36-year-old announced in November that the tournament in the United States would mark the last time he represents his country.
Di Maria earned his 144th cap for Argentina in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Canada as La Albiceleste reached a sixth Copa final in eight editions.
And having played in four of Argentina's five games en route to this latest final, starting three of those, Di Maria continues to show his importance to the world champions.
Ahead of what is scheduled to be Di Maria's final Argentina game on Sunday, against either Colombia or Uruguay, Scaloni told reporters: "You know how I feel about Angel.
"We don't want to retire him earlier than needed. We don't want to feel melancholy. We have to let him play, and then we'll see if we can convince him or not to stay with us.
"But so far, he's here, and he has to be allowed to enjoy this moment."
Nicolas Otamendi is also set to bow out of the international scene after next weekend's final, while uncertainty surrounds whether Lionel Messi will stay on.
All three played a part as Argentina saw off Canada at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to remain on course for a third major title in three years.
Canada had the better of the early exchanges, but Julian Alvarez's 22nd-minute opener was added to by Messi from close range early in the second half.
"It is extremely tough to reach another final," Scaloni said. "It is tough because we know how hard it is to get there.
"The bar has been set very high. Everyone thought it was going to be a bed of roses and it wasn't like that at all. Canada proved it by being a very difficult opponent."
Tottenham secure Solanke on six-year deal
Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.
The 26-year-old joins in a deal reportedly worth up to £65million – a club-record sale for Bournemouth – and signed a six-year contract with Spurs.
Solanke joined the Cherries from Liverpool in 2019, going on to make 216 appearances in all competitions, netting 77 goals and providing 31 assists.
He enjoyed his most prolific campaign in 2023-24, netting a club-record 19 goals in the Premier League for Bournemouth as he played in every league game, only failing to start one.
Solanke comes in to strengthen the centre-forward position, which Spurs have been lacking since Harry Kane left to join Bayern Munich last year.
The striker is the fourth signing for Ange Postecoglou this transfer window, after Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Yang Min-hyuk, who will officially join the club in January.
He could make his debut for Spurs in their Premier League opener on August 19 against Leicester City.
Todibo joins West Ham on loan from Nice
West Ham have confirmed the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo on an initial season-long loan from Nice.
The defender will be with the Hammers for the 2024-25 season, and the club has the option to buy at the end of the campaign for a reported £34.2million fee.
Todibo joined Nice in 2021, initially on loan, and went on to make 136 appearances for them in all competitions, netting two goals.
He also helped them reach the 2021-22 Coupe de France final, though they missed out on the trophy to Nantes.
"I am really excited to be signing for West Ham," Todibo told West Ham's website. "It is a dream come true to play in the Premier League, the best league in the world.
"This is an amazing opportunity for me, at a club with huge ambition, who want to really make progress under the new head coach.
"It feels like the right time to be coming to West Ham. I'm so excited to pull on the shirt and play in the Premier League."
West Ham saw off competition from Juventus to sign the France international as they continue to reshape the squad under new manager Julen Lopetegui.
The 24-year-old is the sixth signing this transfer window, while West Ham are also hoping to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United as they aim to further bolster their defence.
Creevy lauds 'amazing' Argentina after All Blacks win
Agustin Creevy has hailed Argentina's "amazing" performance after they came from behind to beat New Zealand 38-30 in their Rugby Championship opener.
The All Blacks made a strong start to the game and held the lead at the halfway stage, but Argentina started the second half brightly, fighting back to edge in front.
It was Creevy who proved the hero for the Pumas with a try before Mateo Carreras sealed another famous victory, having also beaten them in August 2022.
It is the first time in 12 attempts that Argentina have won their opener at the Rugby Championship, and Creevy, who missed that match in 2022, was buoyant after clinching the win.
"It was amazing," Creevy said. "I think we had a really good performance. We spoke in the week about hitting first and we hit first. I thought we dominated the whole game.
"For me, personally, I am 39 and this is the first time in my life I have won in New Zealand. This game for us is f****** amazing. And now, thinking, I want to win next week."
Meanwhile, it was Scott Robertson's first defeat since taking over the All Blacks, having earned a 2-0 series triumph over England before earning a dominant win over Fiji.
Sam Darry and Anton Lienert-Brown provided the tries in the first half to give them the lead, but they struggled to regain their foothold in the second, and Robertson was candid about where it went wrong for New Zealand on Saturday.
"We weren't good enough," Robertson admitted. "It started off at the kick-off and every time we received one, we couldn't get off our back fence.
"That kept us in a pressure cycle, and we just made too many errors."
Argentina and New Zealand will meet again in the Rugby Championship next weekend in Auckland.
