Erik ten Hag will gather Manchester United's players on Monday and give them the chance to explain the abject performance that resulted in a 7-0 thumping by Liverpool at Anfield.
After the heaviest defeat of the Dutchman's 481-game coaching career, Ten Hag suggested the immediate dressing-room debrief was all one way as he laid down a few home truths.
He repeatedly described United's display as "unprofessional" in interviews after the final whistle, and it was a chastening low just seven days after the high of winning the EFL Cup at Wembley.
The Red Devils have conceded 21 goals in five league games against Liverpool, and they have never lost a competitive fixture by a wider margin than seven goals, with Sunday's result sitting alongside 7-0 losses to Wolves, Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers, each of which happened in a rocky spell from 1926 to 1931.
Former Ajax boss Ten Hag is learning about his players week by week, with this being his first season in the United job.
He was staggered by their reluctance to defend and track back in the second half against Liverpool, with goals from Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez just before and after half-time giving the hosts a 2-0 lead and knocking the stuffing out of United.
Ten Hag said: "As a team, you have to stick together, and that is what we didn't do. It was a surprise for me. I haven't seen this from my team and I don't think it's us, I don't think it's Manchester United. So it's really bad and poor."
Asked if the players had provided any explanation for the second-half collapse, Ten Hag said: "I didn't give them the chance till now. I've given my opinion about it, we will talk about it tomorrow. But I know this team will reset and we have to bounce back.
"There are many things that make me angry, but to concede goals so easily is definitely one of them."
Liverpool celebrated Mohamed Salah becoming their record Premier League scorer, as he helped himself to two goals in the second half, also becoming the first Reds player to score in six consecutive appearances against United.
With 22 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, Salah is the only Premier League player to post 20-plus goals and 10-plus assists this season, and two of those assists came in this game.
It may have stung that two goals also came from Gakpo, the Netherlands international who was linked as a United target before leaving PSV for Liverpool in January.
Ten Hag's long coaching career has not always been a smooth ride, as he acknowledged, and this ranked as one of the bumpiest afternoons of his time on the touchline.
He said: "I have had some bad days, but also other days if you do the right things, if you react with the right measures as a manager and as a team, then you can learn a lot from it, and you can strengthen your mentality.
"If it was more often of course then it's a pattern, but we had so many good results in the last weeks, months, so many good performances. This was a really bad performance and I talk about the second half, because in the first half I thought the team played really decent."
That was fair comment, given United troubled Liverpool on several occasions before Gakpo scored, the breakthrough goal arguably arriving against the run of play.
Conceding six goals in the second half is something that, until this game, had not happened to any Premier League side for almost 10 years.
The last to suffer the indignation had been Fulham at Hull City in December 2013, with the Cottagers going down 6-0 in East Yorkshire.
Only one team in Premier League history have conceded more in the second half of a game, with Wigan shipping eight after the interval against Tottenham in a 9-1 defeat at White Hart Lane in November 2009, Jermain Defoe getting five of the eight.
Al-Nassr 3-1 Al-Khaleej: Ronaldo nets twice and passes up penalty in cup semi-final
Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the scoresheet with two goals as Al-Nassr beat Al-Khaleej 3-1 to reach the final of the King Cup of Champions on Wednesday.
Ronaldo scored either side of half-time as Al-Nassr teed up a final clash with Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Hilal, who beat Al-Ittihad 2-1 in the other semi-final on Tuesday.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star took advantage of an error from opposing goalkeeper Ibrahim Sehic to open the scoring 17 minutes in, then tapped home at the second attempt to make it a double shortly before the hour mark.
That goal could have made it a hat-trick for the Portugal star, but he passed up the chance to take a first-half penalty after Ivo Rodrigues handled in the area, Sadio Mane instead stepping up to blast his kick into the top corner.
Fawaz Al Terais was on target late on for Al-Khaleej, but that proved a mere consolation in a one-sided affair which saw Al-Nassr rack up 21 shots and 3.78 expected goals (xG), with their opponents managing just nine shots totalling 1.37 xG.

Ronaldo was frustrated against Al-Khaleej in the Saudi Pro League on Saturday, but he was back on song against the same opponents on Wednesday to end his mini drought of two games.
While Ronaldo's 43 touches were the fewest of any outfielder to start for Al-Nassr, he managed seven shots, five shots from inside the area and four dribbles – all game-high figures.
Bruno Fernandes hints at Manchester United departure
Bruno Fernandes hinted he may leave Manchester United in the close season, but insisted he will not consider his future until after the European Championship.
The United skipper has been one of the Red Devils' standout performers during a tricky campaign for Erik ten Hag's side, who are sixth in the Premier League and six points behind fifth-place Tottenham with three games remaining.
Fernandes has chipped in with 26 direct goal involvements (15 goals, 11 assists) - the most by any United player - and became the first player to create over 100 chances in the Premier League this term during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Burnley.
The club are reportedly prepared to sell most of their top players in the close season under the new Jim Ratcliffe regime, though the Portugal international is still under contract at Old Trafford until June 2026.
With the European Championship and an FA Cup final against Manchester City on the horizon, the 29-year-old says that remains his top priority and he will focus on his future further down the line.
"I'm not thinking about other things at the moment. Obviously, it doesn't just depend on me, does it?" he told DAZN Portugal.
"A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there's that on both sides.
"I'm not thinking too much about the future, not least because this season hasn't been at the level I’d hoped for - either individually or collectively - so far.
"If I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won't be until after the Euros. Nothing will be able to take my focus away from the FA Cup final and the Euros, as there's nothing more important than that at the moment."
Manchester United clearout continues as two more senior boardroom figures depart
Manchester United have continued their clearout under Jim Ratcliffe by confirming the departures of Patrick Stewart and Cliff Baty.
Interim chief executive Stewart and chief financial officer Baty will depart Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign.
Stewart, who replaced Richard Arnold in the position at the start of the year, will be temporarily replaced by Jean-Claude Blanc until Omar Berrada arrives in July, while Roger Bell will take over from Baty.
The news was confirmed by United on their official website on Tuesday.
INEOS Sport chief Blanc is well known to Ratcliffe, who recently bought a 27.7-per-cent stake in United and is in control of footballing affairs.
Bell also has ties to INEOS and will now take up the same CFO role at Old Trafford.
Ratcliffe said: "I would like to personally thank both Patrick and Cliff for their support in helping us get to know the club and making us feel welcome and I respect their decisions to now move on as we establish a new management team for the club."
Executive co-chairman Joel Glazer said: "I would like to thank Patrick and Cliff for their dedicated service to Manchester United and wish them well for the future.
"Both have been a source of invaluable advice and expertise over many years, and Patrick has served an important role as interim CEO during this transitional phase."
Since Ratcliffe purchased a minority stake in United, the club have made a number of other changes behind the scenes.
John Murtough stepped down as football director after more than a decade at the club, with Dan Ashworth lined up to replace him, while Jason Wilcox has been appointed as technical director.
United are sixth in the Premier League with four games remaining, raising questions over the future of manager Erik ten Hag under the new regime.
