• Dr Tara Wilkinson-McLean joins ICC Future Leaders Programme

  The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League’s (CPL) Head of Partner Servicing, Dr Tara Wilkinson McClean has been selected to take part in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Future Leaders Programme and will be engaging in a number of in person and online sessions with other female cricket administrators from around the world over the next 10 months.

  Barbados national Dr Wilkinson-McClean has been working with the CPL since 2013 in a number of roles dealing with the tournament’s commercial partners. She was recently promoted to the role of Head of Partner Servicing where she runs a team who deliver sponsorship assets.

  Launched in 2021, the Future Leaders Programme has sought to address the underrepresentation of females in leadership positions within cricket by offering online mentorship opportunities for future leaders, pairing them with senior figures to promote and support their career development.

   Building on the positive impact of previous editions, the 2024 offering is specifically tailored for female cricket administrators, who are set to benefit from an extended programme duration, where successful candidates will connect in a combination of face-to-face and online learning opportunities.

  

   The course comprises two three-day in-person workshops, supported by project work, mentoring and online masterclasses delivered by former Australia captain and ICC Hall of Famer, Belinda Clark AO.

• St. Kitts Athletics hosts field events seminar with renowned Grenadian coach Paul Phillip

  St. Kitts Athletics (SKNA) has launched a four-day sports seminar focused on field events, led by renowned Grenadian throws coach Paul Phillip. With participation from 32 athletes and 26 coaches, the seminar aims to strengthen field events training and development on the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis.

   Phillip, who brings a wealth of experience in coaching top-tier throwing events, is guiding the seminar participants through intensive sessions designed to refine techniques in discus, shot put, and javelin. The program emphasizes foundational skills essential for athletes competing at the junior level and beyond.

  

   SKNA President Delwayne Delaney highlighted the strategic focus on field events as part of SKNA's broader commitment to developing a diverse range of athletic disciplines. “We have seen progress in the field events areas at the junior level and decided it was imperative we honed in this area at a youth and junior stage,” Delaney explained. “We intend to host additional workshops on hurdles and middle-distance events, following last year’s sprints seminar with Glen Mills.”

   The seminar underscores SKNA’s dedication to a holistic development approach, ensuring young athletes receive specialized training across multiple disciplines. The organization’s initiative continues to expand opportunities for athletes and coaches, with plans for more seminars and workshops in the near future.

• Charles returns home to welcome party after CPL triumph with St. Lucia Kings
  St Lucia's batting star Johnson Charles returned home to a hero's welcome party on Saturday, as the island celebrates the milestone accomplishment of its franchise St Lucia Kings in copping a maiden Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title.

   

  Charles was met by Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre and other government and cricket officials at the George FL Charles Airport, but a previously planned motorcade will be held at another time.

   

  As for the rest of the celebratory plans, Sports Minister Kenson Casimir explained that a Welcome Committee will be organizing the celebrations.

   

  “There's been a lot of discussion and we did have a flyer circulated in terms of celebration for Johnson Charles but we really felt that we needed to ensure that we do this properly, that we have proper sit-down with stakeholders and a proper date scheduled because we definitely don't want to cheapen who Johnson Charles is to St Lucia,” Casimir shared.

   

  The original plan involved a concert at the Derek Walcott Square at 2:30 pm, similar to the concert held for Julien Alfred on September 27th.

   

  However, Casimir revealed that this event and other activities will be pushed back to coincide with the arrival of English cricketers to the island.

   

  “We've decided that we are going to schedule the celebration concert and some of the other activities for Johnson Charles to be in tandem with the tour of England to the West Indies. We are aware that England will be touring the West Indies in November and so the organising committee will sit and opine and ensure that we have the proper setup,” he explained. 

   

  Casimir says the Ministry of Sports owes a debt of gratitude to Charles, who currently holds the highest run rate in CPL history.

   

  “His performance he is currently the CPL’s leading run scorer which means he is St Lucia's best ever cricketer at the Caribbean Premier League and we want to have something that you know shows our appreciation to him," the Minister ended.
