Trinidadian Commonwealth and World Indoor gold medallist Jereem Richards opened his 2025 season with a win in the men’s 300m at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Florida on Friday.
Richards, who narrowly missed out on a 400m medal at the Paris Olympics after running a national record 43.78 for fourth, ran 32.61 to win on Friday ahead of the Florida State pair of British Wilkerson (32.66) and Micahi Danzy (33.34).
BVI native and Florida State sophomore Kaelyaah Liburd ran 53.90 to take top spot in the women’s 400m ahead of schoolmate Tyra Wilson (55.15) and Wind Speed Athletics’ Stephanie Davis (55.85).
Another BVI star, Garden State Track Club’s Rikkoi Brathwaite, took top spot in the men’s 60m in 6.62 ahead of Florida State’s Neo Mosebi (6.66) and South Florida’s Jermaine Dyges (6.74).
Bahamian Georgia Southern sophomore Shatayla Dorsett ran 7.44 to win the final equivalent ahead of teammate Naj Watson (7.46) and Florida State’s Lucy Mae Sleeman (7.48).
Jamaican Troy University juniors Altwayne Bedward and Javon Osbourne were second and third in the men’s shot put with throws of 17.40m and 16.45m, respectively, with South Florida’s Jason Nwosu winning with a facility record 17.73m.
