
Jamaican Olympic medalists Roje Stona and Shanieka Ricketts will both be honored at Saturday’s 23rd staging of the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Track Meet at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.
Stona made history at the Paris Olympics with an Olympic record 70.00m for gold in the men’s discus throw, becoming the first Jamaican Olympic champion in a throwing event, while Ricketts also made history as the first Jamaican woman to win an Olympic medal in the triple jump with her 14.87m for silver.
Stona and Ricketts, who both hold meet records in the discus and triple jump at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet, were recently crowned as Jamaica’s National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year for 2024.
Additionally, Jascinth Royal, a distinguished Queen’s alumna who has been a key supporter and participant in The Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet for many years, will also be recognized.
The 2025 edition of the meet promises to be a thrilling display of athletic talent, with over 1,800 athletes registered to compete.
Among the top-performing schools participating are Kingston College, Calabar, St. Jago High School, Wolmer’s, Immaculate Conception, and The Queen’s School.
Additionally, leading senior athletes from renowned track clubs such as MVP, Racers, Sprint Tech, and Swept Track Club will be featured.
Notable competitors include Shericka Jackson, Zharnel Hughes, Tyquendo Tracey, Ashanti Moore, and Krystal Sloley.
The meet will feature a wide range of events for both junior and senior athletes, including the 200m, 400m, 800m, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Discus, Shot Put, and 4x400m relays. Senior athletes will also compete in the 60m.
The meet will take place from 8:30 am -7:30 pm Jamaica time.
