2019 World long jump champion Tajay Gayle led a Caribbean 1-2-3 in the men’s long jump on day one of the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Friday. The 28-year-old, in his first competition of the season, opened his series with 7.78m in the first round before fouls in rounds two and three.
Gayle, who also took bronze at the 2023 World Championships, then went slightly further than his first-round effort in round four with 7.87m before producing his best jump of the day, 8.15m, to secure victory.
Jamaican Oklahoma senior Nikaoli Williams had a best jump of 8.02m, a season’s best, in round four to claim second while Bahamian Laquan Nairn’s 7.89m was good enough for third.
Vincentian Arkansas freshman Uroy Ryan was fourth with a personal best 7.88m.
