It will be an all-Clarendon showdown to decide this year’s ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup champions, as reigning champions Clarendon College and Glenmuir High booked their spot in the final with penalty shootout victories over Garvey Maceo and Dinthill Technical in their respective semi-finals encounter on Saturday.
Clarendon College stopped Garvey Maceo 4-3 on penalties, after they played out a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time at Glenmuir High, to not only extended their unbeaten run, but also remain on course to secure the coveted triple.
Captain Malachi Douglas gave Clarendon College a 45+7-minute lead from the penalty spot, but Cleo Clarke (75th) responded for Garvey Maceo with a penalty conversion of his own to send the game to the dreaded shootout.
There, Douglas, Keheim Dixon, Theon Cupee and Christopher Hull, all converted for Clarendon College, while the Chapelton-based substitute goalkeeper Lydel Rodney, denied Clarke and Omarion O’Brian hit his effort wide.
Meanwhile, Glenmuir defeated Dinthill Technical 4-2 on penalties after they played out a goalless stalemate in their contest at Manchester High.
Glenmuir, like Clarendon College is also on course of the treble, and both will be looking to go a step further when they contest their respective semi-finals of the ISSA Champions Cup all-island knockout tournament against Hydel and Kingston College, on Tuesday.
With that in mind, Clarendon College’s Head coach Lenworth “Teacha” Hyde is not only excited about the prospects, but also focused on keeping his players fit and healthy.
“We have been kicking penalties from about three or four months ago and this goalkeeper [Rodney] saved a lot in training and so we decided to put him in and it paid off,” Hyde said in a post-game interview.
“It will be a good matchup against Glenmuir, they are a ball playing team so I love playing against them, so we just have to go and prepare for that. But Tuesday is another crucial game against Hydel, so we are looking forward to getting the players rested, replenished and ready for Tuesday’s game,” he added.
It was a cagey start to the contest by Clarendon College’s standard, but they gradually came into their own after a brief break to facilitate a kit change.
They went close to break the deal in the 18th when Deandre Gallimore’s header came off the upright, and Christopher Maxwell, in goal for Garvey Maceo, denied Hull on the rebound.
Two minute later Dixon’s shot from close range was kept out by Maxwell’s reflex save diving to his right.
Clarendon College eventually broke the deadlock through Douglas, who picked himself up and converted a penalty for his 16th goal of the season, after he was felled inside the area.
Garvey Maceo came out probing on the resumption and almost pulled level six minutes in when Clarke’s well-struck left-footed freekick had Roshae Burrell, who started in goal for Clarendon College, beaten but the effort came back off the crossbar.
Clarke was at it again four minutes later, as he charged into the box and drove a right-footer that was kept out by Burrell, who got down well in time at his near post.
Garvey Maceo’s press inevitably saw them back on level terms when Clarke converted from the 12-yard spot, after O’Brian was felled inside the red zone.
Clarke’s 23rd goal of the season injected some tempo in Garvey Maceo’s charge, as they pushed for the winner, while Clarendon College replaced Burrell with Rodney in anticipation of penalties, and they moved proved fruitful.
Garvey Maceo’s Head coach took heart from his team’s campaign.
“We planned for them, and I think we did really well tactically. The team stuck to the task right through and I think this game was fitting of a final. But hats off to coach Lenny and Clarendon College, and congratulations to my boys because when we started the season no one expected us to do so well,” Gordon said.
Reigning daCosta Cup champions Clarendon College remain on course to secure a coveted treble, as they came from behind to down a gritty St George’s College 3-1 in a pulsating ISSA Champions Cup quarterfinal encounter at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
Justin Hayles (12th), Keheim Dixon (84th) and Tedane Williams (90+5), got the job done for Clarendon College after Jindu Powell gave St George’s College an eighth-minute lead.
Clarendon College will square off against Hydel High in one semi-final encounter, while Kingston College and Glenmuir will lock horns in the other. Kingston College earlier edged Dinthill Technical 3-2, while Glenmuir and Hydel were 1-0 and 4-2 winners over Mona High and Garvey Maceo respectively.
Both teams started spiritedly with St George’s College getting off the first warning shot and Clarendon College responded soon after. In fact, Clarendon College should have gone ahead at that point, but Deandrae Gallimore his effort High and wide from deep inside the 18-yard box.
Given the tempo at which both teams started, it was almost clear that the small turnout inside the grandstand would not have to wait long for the go-ahead goal, and it fell to St George’s College in fine style.
After Zabir Taylor was taken down to the left of the 18-yard box, Malique Lorraine delivered a delicate chip from the set-play and Powell rose above defenders to head home.
But Clarendon College pulled level four minutes later when Hayles finished off a rebound from Dixon's long-range effort that was blocked by Jaedon Thompson, in goal for St George’s College.
From there, both teams cancelled out each other in the middle of the park, as they failed to create any meaningful chances at that point.
It wasn't until the backend of the half that Clarendon College once again surged forward and Christopher Hull should I put them ahead, but instead hit his right-footed effort over the crossbar from just inside the 18-yard box, as the score remained 1-1 at the break.
The second half started just like the first with St George’s College again on the front foot, as they enjoyed a good passage of play, and breached Clarendon College's defence a few times but failed to capitalise.
Their first fell in the 65th to Adrian Reid, who got on the end of Taylor's cross but his right-footer at the fat post was charged down by two defenders.
Reid was at it again 11 minutes later with his shot from a distance by parried by Roshae Burrell, in goal for Clarendon College, on that occasion.
After absorbing consistent pressure, Clarendon College regained the ascendancy when Dixon followed up and finished off a rebound when Daniel Clarke’s shot from a distance was blocked by Thompson.
And with St George’s College pushing high in their bid for the equalizer, the Chapelton-based team helped themselves to another on a well-worked counterattack orchestrated by Dixon and ended with Williams tucking away from close range, seconds before the final whistle.
Winning coach Lenworth “Teacha” Hyde was delighted with the outcome.
"It was just a match up where the better team would win on the day. It was exciting and both teams put out there all and I must lift my hats to St George’s College for a hard-fought game. I told my players to be relentless and I must lift my hats to them as well, they did well and we just hope we can continue playing this brand of football and hopefully win one of these trophies,” Hyde said.
His counterpart Neville “Bertis” Bell took heart from his team’s display, as he conceded that they were beaten by a quality opponent.
"I give thanks because I thought it was a wonderful schoolboy football game. Clarendon College is a quality team and I thought we matched them well and I am proud of these guys. I don't think anyone thought we would be here at this stage of the competition, but we are here, and we have shown that we deserve to be here. We got beaten by a good team and I can live with that,” Bell noted.
2021 champions Garvey Maceo and Dinthill Technical both secured their spots in the semi-finals of the ISSA/Wata DaCosta Cup on Tuesday.
Garvey Maceo booked their passage through to the last four with a 2-0 win over Cornwall College at Glenmuir.
The first few minutes of the contest saw both teams playing some untidy football. Garvey Maceo was first to register a shot on target through Jelani Williams in the sixth minute.
The 2021 champions continued to apply early pressure before it was finally rewarded through a brilliant individual goal from Williams in the 10th minute.
He picked up the ball from just outside the half-way line and dribbled past three players before slotting the ball home past the Cornwall College goalkeeper for his 11th goal of the season.
Cleo Clarke almost made it 2-0 for Garvey Maceo in the 30th minute but his close-range shot only found the side netting.
Cornwall’s best chance of the first half came in the 33rd minute when Lincoln Cox found himself free for a header from a corner that he put wide of the mark.
Three minutes into the second half, Garvey Maceo doubled their lead through Cleo Clark’s 20th goal of the season.
After an Everton Swaby shot was parried well by the Cornwall College goalkeeper, the ball ricocheted to Clark who finished well with his weaker right foot.
Swaby almost added a third for Garvey Maceo in the 62nd minute but pushed his shot wide of the goal.
Dane Buckley almost pulled one back in spectacular fashion for Cornwall College with a volley that went just over the bar in the 65th minute. He also came close in the 67th minute.
Garvey Maceo advanced second place with six points, the same as Dinthill Technical, and will take on Clarendon College in the semi-finals. Clarendon College secured top spot on group A with a 2-1 win over Glenmuir at Manchester High.
Dinthill will face Glenmuir in the other semi-final.
The day’s other game saw Manchester beat Christiana 2-0 at Brooks Park.
Defending champions Clarendon College and Glenmuir High are the first two teams to book their spots in the semi-finals of the 2023 ISSA/Wata DaCosta Cup after quarterfinal round Group A wins over Manchester High and Christiana High, respectively, on Saturday.
Clarendon College moved to six points from as many games with a dominant 4-0 win over Manchester at Manchester High while Glenmuir are also perfect after two games after a 1-0 win over Christiana at Glenmuir.
The pair will meet on Tuesday at Manchester to determine the group winners. Manchester and Christiana will clash at Brooks Park in the other game.
In Group B, Dinthill Technical got their second win in as many games with a 3-0 win over Garvey Maceo at Ewarton Sports Complex.
In the day’s other game, B.B. Coke got on the board in the quarterfinal round with a 2-1 win over Cornwall College at Jarrett Park.
Dinthill Technical currently leads the group with six points from their two games with a goal difference of five while Garvey Maceo, despite their loss on Saturday, remains in second with three points and a goal difference of one.
B.B. Coke are third, also with three points and a goal difference of negative three, while Cornwall College are yet to get off the mark in fourth and have the same goal difference as B.B. Coke.
Tuesday’s final day of the quarterfinal round will see Dinthill face B.B. Coke at STETHS and Cornwall College battle Garvey Maceo at Glenmuir High.
Reigning Ben Francis champions Glenmuir High had a positive start in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup quarterfinals, as they blanked Manchester High 2-0 in a lively Group A encounter at their May Pen base on Wednesday.
Glenmuir, who are contesting the quarterfinal round for the first time since 2017, got their goals four minutes apart through Ja-son Whyte (51st) and Orane Watson (55th), and are now poised for a semi-final berth, provided they see off defending champions Clarendon College and Christiana High in their next two fixtures.
Clarendon College, who are heavily favoured to retain their title, also started positively with a 4-0 beating of Christiana High to grab an early lead in the group. They enjoy a two-goal difference over Glenmuir, heading into Saturday’s second round of games.
At May Pen, Glenmuir came out more purposeful, as Kyle Gordon paraded his nippy footwork in breaking down Manchester defence, while DeAndre Johnson forced a save from Jevanni Bennett with a stinging right-footer from about 20 yards out, in the early exchanges.
In fact, Manchester’s first real show of quality in attack came in the 14th minute when they got in behind Glenmuir’s defence, but were unable to find the go-ahead goal.
Both teams continued to assert their attacking prowess in the probe to break the deadlock. Glenmuir again went close in the 36th when Gordon found Watson at the top of the 18-yard box, but the latter’s effort was kept out by Bennett diving away to his left.
Manchester responded shortly after and it took a tidy save from Antwone Gooden in goal for Glenmuir to deny Michael Reid on the stroke of the break to ensure the score remained goalless.
However, Glenmuir again came out spiritedly on the resumption and inevitable found the breakthrough six minutes in when Whyte’s well-struck freekick from about 30 yards out, beat Bennett all ends up. It was a goal befitting of his first for the season.
And before Manchester could contemplate a comeback, they suffered a second blow when Watson outpaced a defender and drove a right-footed effort past the hapless Bennett for his sixth of the season.
The tempo of the game fell from there and it wasn’t until the later stages of the contest that both teams again showed some life in attack, albeit, failing to capitalise on the opportunities.
Glenmuir’s Head coach Andrew Peart said the win is just what the doctor ordered.
“It is important because we wanted to start the group very well. At the half we weren’t so pleased with the intensity at which we played, we gave Manchester High a little bit too much room, especially in the middle of the field.
“But second half, we got a brilliant goal by Jason Whyte and then it was about pressing high up the field again that led to the second goal. So I am very pleased in terms of the reaction in the second half and in the end, the result,” Peart said in a post-game interview.
His counterpart Patrick Graham believe his team was lacking in parts.
“First, let me congratulate the Glenmuir team. I believe they showed a bit more fight than us, we surrendered some crucial areas on the pitch when they were in possession and it cost us the game.
“The positive is that after going two-nil down, we showed a little bit more fight and more composure and it shows that we can play whenever we decide to play. So, we just have to prepare for the next two games,” Graham noted.
Meanwhile, over in Group two, Garvey Maceo High and Dinthill Technical registered 4-0 and 2-0 victories over BB Coke and Cornwall College respectively. Much like it is in Group A, Garvey Maceo hold a two-goal difference over Dinthill Technical.

Defending champions Garvey Maceo will continue their quest for back-to-back ISSA/Digicel daCosta Cup titles after advancing to the quarterfinal round after a 10-0 home hammering of DeCarteret College in the second leg of their second-round fixture on Tuesday. Overall, they won the tie 15-0 after a 5-0 first leg win at Brooks Park on October 21.
With 32 teams advancing to the second round of the daCosta Cup, the teams played two leg knockout fixtures to determine the 16 teams to take part in the quarterfinal round. The quarterfinal round will involve four four-team groups with the winners advancing to the semi-finals.
Joining Garvey Maceo in Group 1 of the quarterfinal round will be Central High, Christiana High and Manchester High. Central advanced after beating Irwin High (Zone A winners in the preliminary round) 4-1 on aggregate. Christiana came out on the right side of a dogfight with Happy Grove, prevailing 4-3 on aggregate while Manchester beat B.B Coke 3-1 over two legs.
Group 2 will be contested by Cornwall College (Zone A runners up), Dinthill Technical (Zone K winners), Paul Bogle (Zone L winners) and William Knibb (Zone C winners). Cornwall College got to the quarters after beating Vere Technical 5-3 on penalties after the teams were deadlocked at 3-3 after two legs. Dinthill Technical now have 12 wins from as many games in this year’s daCosta Cup after 4-1 and 4-0 wins over Browns Town to advance. Paul Bogle beat Cedric Titus 2-0 on aggregate while William Knibb beat Petersfield 1-0 over two legs.
Clarendon College (Zone H winners), Frome Technical (Zone B winners), Rusea’s (Zone B runners up) and York Castle (Zone I winners) make up Group 3. Clarendon College hammered St. Mary Technical 12-1 on aggregate. Frome are still unbeaten this season after 3-0 and 3-1 wins over Titchfield, Rusea’s enjoyed a pair of 2-0 wins over Belair High and York Castle put seven past Seaforth over two legs without conceding.
Group 4 will be occupied by Edwin Allen (Zone H runners up), STETHS (Zone E winners), Manning’s (Zone D winners) and Glenmuir (Zone M winners). The second round saw STETHS secure a narrow 2-1 aggregate win over Holmwood, Edwin Allen beat McGrath 3-0, Manning’s get past Charlemont 4-2 and Glenmuir beat Tacky 10-1.
The quarterfinals get underway on Saturday.
Dinthill Technical will have the distinction of being the only team in the 2022 daCosta Cup to advance to the next round on the back of a perfect group stage record thanks to a 4-0 home victory over McGrath High on Friday.
With 30 points from 10 games, Dinthill can celebrate their progression to the next round as winners of Zone K. McGrath ended with 21 points and will advance alongside Dinthill while Charlemont finished two points behind McGrath in third.
Frome Technical and Rusea’s will advance from Zone B. Frome won the zone with 22 points from eight games while Rusea’s finished three points behind them in second. The teams played out a 0-0 draw at Frome on Saturday.
William Knibb hammered Herbert Morrison 10-0 at home on Saturday to confirm their progression as Zone C winners with 22 points from eight games. Cedric Titus finished second with 16 points from eight games despite a 0-2 home loss against Spot Valley, who finished five points behind in third.
Manning’s and Petersfield played out a 0-0 draw on Saturday and will both advance from Zone D. Manning’s amassed 24 points from their 10 games to advance as zone winners while Petersfield ended their preliminary round campaign with 20 points from 10 outings.
STETHS finished the preliminary round with nine wins and one loss to finish with 27 points and win Zone E. Their final game saw them beat Munro College 2-0 at home on Saturday. B.B Coke, who entered their last game needing a win to confirm their passage to the next round, beat Maggotty 3-1 to secure their spot with 19 points, three more than Munro in third, from their 10 games.
Manchester secured their spot as Zone F winners with a 2-1 win over DeCarteret College at Kirkvine on Saturday. They ended with 25 points from their 10 games. Belair High will also advance after a 4-0 away win over Mt. St. Joseph, leaving them three points behind the leaders and three ahead of DeCarteret in third.
Zone G was extremely close as Christiana and Holmwood both finished with 15 points, one point ahead of Mile Gully in third. Christiana entered a Friday clash with Holmwood three points behind their opponents and got a 2-1 home win to end up as zone winners by two on goal difference.
Clarendon College and Edwin Allen played out a 1-1 draw at Edwin Allen on Saturday as both confirmed their progression from Zone H. Clarendon College won the zone with 22 points from eight games while Edwin Allen ended seven points behind their opponents in second.
York Castle was already confirmed as Zone I winners before a 5-1 win over Marcus Garvey at Drax Hall on Thursday. They ended the group stage with 22 points from eight games. Browns Town entered their game with Ocho Rios on Thursday needing a point to join York Castle in the next round and got it thanks to a goalless draw. They finished with 12 points, one more than Oracabessa in third.
Zone J was the closest as the top four teams all ended up within two points of each other. Tacky won the zone with 17 points while St. Mary Tech had the same number of points in second, trailing by three on goal difference. Horace Clarke finished a point behind them while Annotto Bay ended two points adrift. Saturday saw Tacky and Horace Clarke play out a 1-1 draw at Horace Clarke while St. Mary Tech beat Wycliffe Martin 2-0 at Wycliffe Martin and Annotto Bay beat St. Mary High 1-0 at the Highgate Community Center.
Paul Bogle finished with 24 points from 10 games to win Zone L after a 2-1 away win over Yallahs on Thursday. They will be joined in the next round by Seaforth who ended with 21 points after a 6-1 win over St. Thomas Technical at the Eastern Banana Complex, also on Thursday.
Glenmuir beat Central High 2-0 at home on Saturday to confirm their status as winners of Zone M, finishing with 19 points. Central ended up second, three points behind Glenmuir while Denbigh ended u a distant third with 10 points after a 2-1 win over Old Harbour at the Port Esquivel Sports Club.
Defending champions Garvey Maceo will advance as Zone N winners after a 3-0 home win over Winston Jones on Saturday. They ended up with 22 points from their eight games, six points more than second-placed Vere Technical who booked their spot in the next round with a 5-0 home win over Foga Road.
Happy Grove and Titchfield both ended with 12 points from six games to advance from Zone O. Happy Grove won the zone by two on goal difference thanks to a 4-1 win over Fair Prospect at Fair Prospect while Titchfield got a 2-0 win over Port Antonio at Carder Park.
Defending champions Garvey Maceo secured a 2-0 home win over their closest challengers, Vere Technical, to take over top spot in Zone N of the ISSA/Digicel daCosta Cup on Saturday.
Penalties from Nevaughn Myrie in the 48th minute and Orlando Lawrence in the 91st means Garvey Maceo now find themselves top with 13 points from five games, three points ahead of their Saturday opponents. Foga Road also has 10 points in third thanks to a 1-0 win over Kemps Hill at home.
Irwin, after three straight draws, returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Green Pond at Green Pond to remain top of Zone A. They now have 18 points from eight games. Green Pond has 10 points from seven games and started the day in second but were passed after 12-time champions Cornwall College secured a crucial 4-0 win over Anchovy at Irwin to move to 12 points from their seven outings.
At the Orchard Sports Complex, Frome Technical comfortably beat Hopewell 5-1 for their sixth win in as many games to lead Zone B ahead of Rusea’s who has 15 points from their six games.
William Knibb leads Zone C with a perfect 15 points from five games after a 9-0 hammering of Muschett High at Muschett. So far, they have amassed 33 goals and are one of only two teams yet to concede a goal in this year’s daCosta Cup, the other being Zone E leaders STETHS. Cedric Titus can also boast a perfect record through five games in Zone C after a 2-1 win over Herbert Morrison at Herbert Morrison.
The only Zone D game on Saturday saw Petersfield got to Godfrey Stewart and get an important 4-1 win over the hosts to strengthen their hold on second in the zone. Going into the game, Petersfield had 12 points, 10 behind leaders Manning’s, while Godfrey Stewart had nine but had played one more game than their opponents.
STETHS are still perfect after eight games in Zone E thanks to a comfortable 6-0 win over Sydney Pagon at home. As previously mentioned, the five-time champions have still yet to concede a goal and have scored 20. In the day’s other zone game, Munro College beat Maggotty 1-0 at home to join B. B Coke on 13 points from eight games, eleven points behind the leaders from St. Elizabeth.
Zone G leaders Holmwood Technical were held to a 0-0 draw by Mile Gully at home to move to 14 points from six matches, four points ahead of Christiana High who beat Alphansus Davis 2-1 at Alphansus Davis. Mile Gully also has 10 points in third. Christiana has played a game less than both Holmwood and Mile Gully.
Clarendon College now has 18 points from a possible 18 in Zone H after a 3-0 win over Lennon High at Toll Gate. Edwin Allen are now seven points behind in second after a 5-0 win over Thompson Town at home. Lennon are four points behind Edwin Allen in third.
Marcus Garvey got their first win of the season in their sixth game in Zone I by beating Ocho Rios 1-0 at Drax Hall.
There were 17 goals in three games in Zone J. Westmoreland Oval was the venue as leaders Tacky and Annotto Bay battled to a 3-3 draw. Tacky now have 16 points from eight games. St, Mary High moved within three points of Tacky in second thanks to a 3-1 win over Wycliffe Martin High at the latter. St. Mary Tech are third with 11 points after going to Horace Clarke and beating the hosts 4-2.
Fair Prospect battled to a 4-4 draw with Port Antonio at home in Zone O for their first point of the season while leaders Happy Grove and second-placed Titchfield both have nine points from five games after a 2-2 draw at Hector’s River.
Defending champions Garvey Maceo made a statement with a 10-0 hammering of Winston Jones in the ISSA/Digicel daCosta Cup on Tuesday.
The result moves them to second in Zone N with four points from two games, three less than leaders Vere who have played one more match. Vere were held to a 1-1 draw at Foga Road.
12-time champions Cornwall College rebounded from a shock loss to Green Pond in their last game with a commanding 8-0 win over Anchovy at home to move to six points from three games and the top of Zone A on goal difference.
Also in Zone A, Irwin got their second win in as many games with a 2-0 home win over Green Pond while St. James and Maldon played out a 1-1 draw at Jarrett Park.
In Zone K, Dinthill Technical moved to a perfect 12 points from four games with a 4-1 win over Guys Hill at Tacky High. At Charlemont, the hosts got their third win in four games with a 3-1 result against Ewarton while McGrath secured a 4-2 win over Enid Bennett at home.
Glenmuir got their second win in as many games in Zone M with a 6-1 win over Tacius Golding at home. Central High beat Old Harbour 2-0 at Soya Oval in the day’s other Zone M game.
In a Zone I double header at Drax Hall, Oracabessa beat Browns Town 1-0 before Ocho Rios secured a 2-1 win over Marcus Garvey. Both teams now have six points from three matches.
In Zone D, Grange Hill and Black River played out a 0-0 draw at Llandilo Sports Complex while in Zone E, Lacovia recorded their first win in four games with a 1-0 home victory over Maggotty.
DeCarteret College and Bellefield played out a 1-1 draw in Zone F and in Zone J, Horace Clarke and St. Mary Tech played out a 0-0 draw at Richmond Farm.
There were also 16 matches played on Wednesday.
In Zone B, Frome and Rusea’s both maintained their unbeaten records. Frome secured a 7-0 win over Hopewell at home to move to six points from two games while Rusea’s went to Green Island and won 2-0 to get their third win in three games. Both teams have yet to concede a goal this season.

Manning’s got are now perfect after four games in Zone D after a 2-0 win over Belmont Academy at the Crawford Sports Complex. Also in Zone D, Petersfield moved to nine points from three games with a 2-1 home win over Godfrey Stewart.
In Zone E, STETHS are also perfect after four games thanks to a 1-0 win over B.B Coke at B.B Coke. Munro College now only trail STETHS by two points after a 2-1 win at Sydney Pagon.
Manchester beat Belair 2-0 at Kirkvine to move to nine points from three games in Zone F. Mt. St. Joseph recorded their first win of the season 2-0 over May Day at May Day.
In Zone G, Holmwood moved to seven points from three games with a 1-0 win over Mile Gully. Christiana beat Alphansus Davis High by one goal to nil in the Zone’s other Wednesday fixture.
Zone H saw Clarendon College beat Lennon High 3-0 at Foga Road for their second win in as many games. Zone leaders Edwin Allen now have seven points from three games after being held to a 1-1 draw by Thompson Town.
In Zone J, St. Mary High secured a 2-1 win over Wycliffe Martin High at the Highgate Community Centre while, at Tacky High, the hosts recorded a 3-1 win over Annotto Bay.
Action continues Thursday with three Zone L matches. Paul Bogle will host Yallahs, Robert Lightbourne will host Morant Bay and Seaforth will host St. Thomas Technical.
Kingston College secured their second trophy of this schoolboy football season by defeating Garvey Maceo 2-0 to secure the Olivier Shield at STETHS today.
One week after beating Jamaica College on penalties to lift the Manning Cup, the North Street-based school stood opposite daCosta Cup champions Garvey Maceo, who dominated Manning’s 5-0 to lift the title last week.
KC’s first goal came from a set-piece after Louis Watson headed home a corner from captain Jemone Barclay in the 44th minute.
The Manning Cup champions then doubled their lead in the 54th minute when Barclay slotted home a close-range left-footed finish.
This is KC’s first Olivier Shield since 1986 and their seventh overall.
Garvey Maceo and Mannings will contest the final of the 2022 ISSA daCosta Cup after dramatic semifinal wins at the STETHS Sports Complex.
In the doubleheader, Garvey Maceo stunned a more heavily favoured Clarendon College 3-2, while Mannings battled to a hard-fought penalty shootout win against highflying Dinthill.
In the opening match, Mannings seemed well on the way to a win in regular time after Jahmaleek Porter's 55th-minute header remained buttressed by a stubborn defense line with less than 10 minutes remaining.
In the 83rd minute, however, Shamair Hutchinson pulled the teams level after firing wide of Mannings goalkeeper Ashwani Campbell, who had a stubborn display between the sticks all game.
Mikhail Romans who replaced Campbell heading into the penalty shootout came up with heroics of his own in a 4-2 shootout win, after stopping the shot of Hutchinson, to push Mannings to their first-ever final.
In the second match, Clarendon College proved to be their own worst enemy early on, after a defensive mix-up gifted Gregory Cousins with an open net one minute into first-half stoppage time. The underdogs doubled their lead soon after the resumption after Cleo Clarke slammed a low fierce shot into the net in the 46th minute.
Jaheim Rose gave Clarendon College a lifeline in the 51st minute with a goal from the penalty spot, but Clarke scored again in the 80th to put the game out of reach. Damion Abrahams corner went straight into the with five minutes left to give the defending champions faint hope but the goal proved to be a mere consolation.
Schoolboy football action is gearing up to resume in the new year as the draw for the ISSA Champions Cup took place on Wednesday.
January 5th is the date schoolboy football fans will circle as defending champions Kingston College will begin their defence of their crown against Manning’s School at STETHS in a 3:00pm fixture.
At the same venue at 1:00pm, STATHS will do battle with Dinthill Technical.
Stadium East will host the other two quarterfinal matches on the day, with Charlie Smith locking horns with Clarendon College at 1:00pm and Jamaica College squaring off against Garvey Maceo at 3:00pm.
The winners will advance to the semi-finals to be played on Saturday, January 8th at either Stadium East or the National Stadium with the final scheduled to be played on January 15th.
In a matter of weeks, St. Andrew Technical have gone from being out of the Manning Cup to being in the semi-finals.
After originally finishing fourth in Group B behind Camperdown, Tivoli and Excelsior, they advanced to the quarterfinal round as a second-placed team after Camperdown and Tivoli were disqualified from the competition for using ineligible players.
On Friday at Jamaica College, they played out a 1-1 draw with Mona High to advance from Group 1 along with defending champions Jamaica College to the last four of the competition.
JC finished with a perfect nine points from three games with a 3-1 win over St. Catherine at Stadium East.
On Saturday, Kingston College (KC) secured the top spot in Group 2 with a 2-0 win over Excelsior also at Jamaica College.
Charlie Smith beat Kingston Technical4-1 in the other Group 2 game to advance alongside KC.
KC will play STATHS in one semi-final and JC will play Charlie Smith in the other.
Meanwhile, Mona, Excelsior, Kingston Technical and St. Catherine High will contest the Walker Cup.
In the daCosta Cup, Dinthill Technical and The Mannings School advanced to the semi-finals on Friday.
Dinthill won Zone 1 after beating Edwin Allen 1-0 at Drax Hall, their third win in as many games.
Christiana beat William Knibb 3-2 in the other Zone 1 match at Drax Hall.
Mannings played to a 1-1 draw with Munro College at STETHS to finish with seven points from their three matches and win Zone 2.
Vere Technical and Happy Grove played a seven-goal thriller in the other Zone 2 game at STETHS on the day, with the former prevailing 4-3.
On Saturday, Garvey Maceo pulled off something special to get into the semi-finals.
Entering their final match against St. Thomas Technical at Kirkvine, trailing STETHS by three goals on goal difference, Garvey Maceo produced a massive 12-0 victory over St Thomas Technical to win Zone 3 and advance.
STETHS tried their best with a 6-0 win over Frome Technical at home but it wasn’t enough.
Garvey Maceo and STETHS both finished with seven points but Garvey Maceo’s massive win meant they ended with a goal difference of +16 whereas STETHS, with a big win of their own, ended up with a goal difference of +11.
Edwin Allen, Christiana, Munro College, Vere Technical, STETHS and Frome, as second and third-placed finishers from the respective groups, have all qualified for the Ben Francis Cup.
The final two qualifiers as well as the final DaCosta Cup semi-finalists will be determined after rescheduled Zone-4 games on Tuesday when Clarendon College play McGrath High and Manchester High and Cornwall College meet.
As group play in zone F of the daCosta Cup comes to an end tomorrow, there are still four teams in contention to progress to the next round.
Garvey Maceo have already booked their place in the next round as zone winners on the back of a perfect four wins from four games so far.
Their opponents tomorrow, Foga Road, currently third in the zone on six points, need a win to maintain any chance of qualifying for the next round as second-place finishers in the zone.
The match between those two is the second of a doubleheader at Foga Road and will kick off at 3:30 pm.
The first half of the doubleheader will give Vere Technical, who are second in the zone on seven points, a chance to ensure qualification with a win over Kemps Hill.
The 3:30 pm game at Garvey Maceo between Central High and Old Harbour features the other two teams with an outside chance of getting to the next round.
With both teams on four points, whoever wins that match has an outside chance of advancing if both Vere Technical and Foga Road lose.
Central High has the best goal difference out of those four teams with +2, while both Vere and Foga Road have a goal difference of +1.
Old Harbour has a goal difference of -1.
On Saturday, zones C, E and G will all be decided as well.
Zone C is the most exciting with five teams having a chance to qualify.
Munro College and B.B. Coke are the top two teams in the zone with nine and seven points respectively.
Those two will meet in the 1:15 pm match at STETHS and whoever prevails will advance as zone winners.
STETHS are currently third in the zone on seven points and would secure qualification to the next round with a win over Mt. St. Joseph at Kirkvine in their 1:15 pm clash.
Lacovia and Maggotty are fourth and fifth with six points each and one could qualify with a win and losses from both B.B Coke and STETHS.
In zone E, Lennon High, Clarendon College, and Edwin Allen all have a chance to advance.
Lennon and defending champions, Clarendon College, are both on 10 points with Lennon ahead on goal difference while Edwin Allen has nine points in third.
Lennon will play Edwin Allen in a 3:30 pm game at Turners Field while Clarendon College will battle Glenmuir in a 3:30 pm game at Glenmuir.
If Lennon wins against Edwin Allen, they will advance to the next round, along with Clarendon College, regardless of the result of Clarendon College vs Glenmuir.
If Edwin Allen beats Lennon, Clarendon would only need a draw with Glenmuir to advance.
With only five teams in zone G, St. Thomas Technical have already advanced as zone winners with eight points from their four matches.
Paul Bogle are second in the zone with four points from three games and would join them in the next round with a win over Seaforth at York Oval in their 3:30 pm encounter.
Port Antonio are third in the zone, also with four points, and would advance with a win over Happy Grove and a Paul Bogle draw or loss.
Port Antonio and Happy Grove will square off at Lynch Park at 3:30.
Seaforth and Happy Grove both have two points and could have outside chances to advance with wins.
