Barbados have been crowned champions of the 2024 CWI Rising Stars Men’s 2-Day Championship after a draw with defending champions Jamaica in the final at Arnos Vale Playing Field from Saturday-Sunday.

Barbados batted first on Saturday after being put in by the Jamaicans and made 200-9 declared off 62.4 overs in their first innings.

Raneico Smith led the way with 50 off 57 balls including seven fours and a six batting at number nine after the Jamaicans had Barbados reeling at 79-5 in the 26^th over at one point.

Captain Nathan Sealy also provided some important runs with 29 against 3-61 off 19 overs from Tamarie Redwood and identical figures of 2-39 off 10 overs, each, from Jevone Wynter and Michael Clarke.

Jamaica, in their reply, reached 72-2 off 24 overs at stumps on day one, trailing by 128 runs with Steven Wedderburn and Matthew Morgan at the crease on 39* and 28*, respectively.

The first over of day two saw Wedderburn fall without adding to his overnight score and that signaled the beginning of the end for the Jamaicans.

The wickets of Morgan (33), Trevaun Williams (2) and captain Brian Barnes (16) followed soon after as they eventually reached 127-8 off 43 overs before declaring to try and force a result out of the game.

Off-spinner Saurav Worrell was the pick of the Barbadian bowlers with 3-24 from his 10 overs while Jatario Prescod also took three wickets.

Barbados then batted smartly in their second innings, eventually reaching 172-2 in 57 overs before proceedings drew to a close with them as champions.

Openers Kyle Jordan and Joshua Morris made 62 and 52, respectively.

Teams will now turn their attention to the CWI Rising Stars Men's 50-Over Championships starting on Tuesday.

Defending champions Jamaica will face Guyana at Arnos Vale. The Leeward Islands will face Trinidad & Tobago at Sion Hill while Barbados takes on the Windward Islands at Park Hill.

Rain was the dominant force in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Friday as play was not possible in two of the three matches in the CWI Rising Stars Under-19 Men’s 2-Day Championship.

Play on day two between the Leeward Islands and Guyana at the Park Hill Playing Field and Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago at the Sion Hill Playing Field was not possible.

Guyana were leading the Leewards by 27 runs entering day two.

The only match that saw some cricket on day two was the match between the Windward Islands and defending double champions Jamaica at Arnos Vale.

The Windwards reached 44-0 in the ninth over after starting the day 27-0 off five overs.

Theo Edward and Captain Stephan Pascal finished 22* and 20*, respectively.

The Leeward Islands will take on Barbados at Arnos Vale with Jamaica facing Trinidad & Tobago at Park Hill and the Windward Islands facing Guyana at Sion Hill.

Defending champions Jamaica and the Windward Islands were evenly poised at stumps on day one of their opening encounter of the 2024 CWI Rising Stars Under-19 2-Day Championship in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Thursday.

The Jamaicans, after winning the toss and bowling first at Arnos Vale, restricted the Windwards to 135 all out in 45.2 overs in their first innings.

West Indies Under-19 Captain Stephan Pascal led the way for the Windwards with 26 while Lee John, Kirtney Franklyn and Kirt Murray all chipped in with 23, 22, and 21, respectively.

Leg-spinner Tamarie Redwood was the pick of the Jamaican bowlers with 6-44 from 17.2 overs while medium pacer Michael Clarke took 4-26 from 12 overs.

The Jamaicans then reached 146-8 off 34.1 overs before declaring close to the end of the day’s play.

West Indies Under-19 opener Adrian Weir top scored with 38 while captain Brian Barnes made 30 and Steve Wedderburn, who also represented the West Indies Under-19s at the World Cup earlier this year, made 28.

Kirt Murray took 4-22 from his 6.1 overs of left arm spin while Aaron Joseph took 2-24 from five overs of medium pace.

The Windwards reached 27-0 off five overs at stumps, leading by 16 runs.

At Sion Hill Playing Field, Trinidad & Tobago trail Barbados by 149 runs at stumps on day one.

Barbados made 200-9 declared off 67 overs after being put in to bat by their Trinidadian counterparts on Thursday.

Jatario Prescod led the way with 55* and was well supported by Joshua Morris who made a patient 43.

Raneico Smith (21) and captain Nathan Sealy (20) also provided useful knocks.

Left arm pacer Jacen Agard took 4-50 from 17 overs for T&T and was well supported by Aneal Rooplal’s 2-36 off 11 overs.

At stumps, Trinidad & Tobago reached 51-3 off 17 overs. Openers Justin Jagessar and Kyle Ramdoo made 22 and 15, respectively.

At Park Hill Playing Field, Leeward Islands Under-19s trail Guyana Under-19s by 27 runs.

The Leewards restricted Guyana to 111 all out off 34.2 overs after winning the toss.

Jonathan Van Lange top scored for the Guyanese with 28 while Rampertab Ramnauth made 22 against 5-21 from West Indies Under-19 pacer Nathan Edward.

Micah McKenzie and Matthew Miller also bowled well with 2-18 from 10 overs and 2-23 from five overs, respectively.

The Leewards then reached 84-2 off 20 overs at stumps with Devanand Singh and captain Jewel Andrew at the crease on 22* and 16*, respectively.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Men's Under-19 Championship, initially set to commence on July 2, with a three-day competition preceding a 50-over tournament, has undergone significant changes due to Hurricane Beryl's passage earlier this week.

The hurricane affected regions including host country St. Vincent and the Grenadines, necessitating a delay and a subsequent alteration in the tournament's format.

The tournament will now begin on July 11 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The updated format will feature four rounds of two-day matches and five rounds of 50-over matches.

Despite these modifications, the tournament will still conclude on July 31 as initially planned, ensuring teams have a balance of match time to develop their skills and adequate time for recovery between matches. 

Cricket West Indies Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, stated, "Following an assessment by our Cricket Department, I am pleased to confirm that the pitches and outfields are in excellent condition. Additionally, electricity and water services have been fully restored at all venues and accommodation facilities."

The Barbados, Leeward Islands, Jamaica, and Guyana teams are scheduled to arrive today Monday, July 8. The Trinidad and Tobago team will arrive on Wednesday, July 10. The Windward Islands team is already present in St. Vincent.

Bascombe also commended all stakeholders for their effort in reorganizing and readying the tournament under challenging circumstances. "I want to extend my gratitude to everyone involved in the quick and efficient reorganization of the championship. Your dedication has ensured we can proceed as planned. I also commend the players for their patience and understanding during this period.” Bascombe said.

Jamaica are champions of the West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 Three-Day competition after securing a 56-run win over Barbados on the third and final day of the final at Arnos Vale on Tuesday.

After starting the day 4-0 in their second innings, Jamaica were dismissed for just 87 in 31.4 overs, meaning Barbados would need 199 in just over two sessions to win.

Steven Wedderburn made 39 for Jamaica as Saurav Worrell took 4-14 from six overs and Renecio Smith grabbed 3-11 from seven overs for Barbados.

Then, despite starts from Joshua Dorne (34), Zion Brathwaite (28), Nimar Bolden (23) and Captain Nathan Sealy (23), Barbados were bowled out for 142 in 61.2 overs with just 10 balls left in the match.

Tamarie Redwood took 4-47 off 18 overs while Reon Edwards took 3-31 off 10.2 overs.

Jamaica have now successfully completed the Regional Under-19 double after winning the 50-over title earlier in July.

Jamaica hold a 115-run lead over Barbados heading into the third and final day of their West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 three-day final at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in Kingstown, St. Vincent.

The Jamaicans were 4-0 at stumps on day two after bowling out the Bajans for 158 in 56.1 overs.

Nimar Bolden led the way for Barbados with 37 as pacer, Deshawn James, took 5-21 off 10.1 overs for the Jamaicans. Tamarie Redwood took 3-56 from 18 overs in support.

Earlier, Jamaica were bowled out for 269 off 108.4 overs in their first innings after entering day two on 217-4.

Jordan Johnson carried on from his overnight 118* to make 120 off 235 balls. His knock included six fours and a six. Captain, Brian Barnes, who entered day two on 59, was dismissed for 61 off 150 balls.

Captain, Nathan Sealy, took 5-64 off 30.4 overs for Barbados.

A win for Jamaica would see them complete the regional Under-19 double having already claimed the 50-over title.

Off-spinner Saurav Worrell was the star of the show with a brilliant six-wicket haul as Barbados handed Jamaica their only defeat of the West Indies Men’s Rising Stars Under-19 50-over Tournament in St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

Worrell ripped through the Jamaican batting at Arnos Vale on Wednesday, finishing with figures of 6-28 off 20 overs, to restrict the Jamaicans to 106 all out to complete a 75-run win.

Captain, Nathan Sealy, also chipped in with 3-13 off 9.4 overs. Adrian Weir (33) and Brian Barnes (32) were the only Jamaican batsmen to score more than eight.

Earlier, Joshua Dorne hit 64 and Zion Brathwaite hit 40 as Barbados posted 181 all out off 45 overs.

Michael Clarke took 4-34 to lead the Jamaicans with the ball and got good support from Deshawn James who took 3-32 off eight overs.

Jamaica, despite the defeat, finished the tournament top of the table with four wins out of five games.

The Windward Islands finished second after their third win in five games with a 56-run win over Guyana at the Park Hill Playing Field in Colonarie.

The Windwards posted a formidable 285-5 off their 50 overs batting first, the highest total in the tournament.

Divonie Joseph led the way with the first century of the Championship, an unbeaten 110 off 132 balls including nine fours and four sixes, while Tarrique Edward provided good support with 64.

Jonathan Rampersaud took 2-49 for Guyana.

Rampersaud also showed good form with the bat, reaching 58* off 46 balls as Guyana reached 179-7 off 38.5 overs before rain ended proceedings with Guyana 56-runs short of where they needed to be.

Earlier, Mavendra Dindyal made 37 and Rampertab Ramnauth 33 as Edward ended with 4-40 from his 10 overs.

The day’s third match saw Trinidad & Tobago pull off a nail-biting three-wicket win over the Leeward Islands at Sion Hill.

The Leewards were bowled out for just 94 in 34.3 overs batting first. The bulk of the damage was done by Ronillster Perreira who took 4-21 from his 10 overs. Vasant Singh took 3-15 from eight overs in support.

The Trinidadians then struggled to reach their target, eventually losing seven wickets on their way to 95 in 34.3 overs.

Kimani Nisbett and Michael Palmer took two wickets, each for the Leewards.

All teams will now turn their attention to the three-day format starting on Saturday.

On a rainy Saturday in St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Jamaica and Guyana secured wins in the third round of the CWI Men’s Rising Stars Under-19 50-Over tournament.

Jamaica secured their third win in as many games with a six-wicket win over the Leeward Islands via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method at Sion Hill.

The match was initially reduced to 41 overs per-side after a rain delay at the start. The Leewards were reduced to 157 all out off 40.3 overs batting first.

Michael Greaves top-scored for the Leewards with 60 while Carlon Bowen-Tuckett added 26 against 4-24 off eight overs from Tamarie Redwood and 3-22 off nine overs from Alex Hinds.

Jamaica were cruising at 86-4 off 16 overs during their reply before another rain delay meant their new target was 144 off 33 overs.

Play resumed before, only four overs later, the heavens opened up once again with Jamaica ending up 121-4 off 20 overs. Jordan Johnson led the way with his second consecutive half century, ending 59* off just 52 balls.

Guyana beat Barbados by 54 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method at Arnos Vale for their first win.

Guyana batted first and posted 178-9 from their 50 overs thanks to a top-score of 35 from Rampertab Ramnauth. Jonathan Rampersaud (31) and Zachary Jodah (28) also provided good contributions against two wickets, each, from Nathan Sealy, Saurav Worrell and Isaiah Folkes.

Barbados’ reply never really got off the ground. They eventually reached 104-8 off 27.2 overs before rain prevented any further play.

Rampersaud took 3-20 off six overs and was well supported by Isai Thorne who claimed 2-25 from 6.2 overs.

The match between Trinidad & Tobago and the Windward Islands at the Cumberland Playing Field ended in a no result.

The Windwards were cruising at 62-1 off 9.2 overs before rain prevented any further play.

Earlier, they bowled T&T out for 124 in just 24.4 overs. Kerwin Gassie led the way with 4-32 from 4.4 overs.

Jamaica secured an early lead in the CWI Men’s Rising Stars Under-19 50-Over tournament with a six-wicket win over Trinidad & Tobago at Arnos Vale on Thursday.

The Trinidadians first posted 158 all out from their 50 overs. They recovered from being 87-6 thanks to a late 57-ball 28 from Abdurrahmaan Juman including one four and a six.

Earlier, opener Nick Ramlal made 22. Michael Clarke took his second consecutive three-wicket haul for the Jamaicans with 3-30 from his 10 overs while Reon Edwards also picked up his second three-wicket haul in a row with 3-36 from nine. The Jamaicans also got a pair of wickets from Tamarie redwood and Deshawn James.

Jamaica then made quick work of their target to get their second win in as many games. Jordan Johnson led the way with an unbeaten 57 off 67 balls including two fours and three sixes. Adrian Weir also contributed 36 as the Jamaicans finished 159-4 off 33 overs.

The Windward Islands got their first win of the campaign when they beat Barbados by four wickets at Sion Hill.

Barbados, the defending champions, managed only 137 all out off 39.4 overs batting first. Gadson Bowens led the way for Barbados with 49 against an excellent 5-28 off 10 overs from Kirt Murray and 2-16 from 4.4 overs from Ackeem Auguste.

Captain Stephan Pascal then scored a composed 43 to lead the Windwards to 138-6 off 44.1 overs. Nathan Sealy and Saurav Worrell both took two wickets, each, for the Bajans.

The Leeward Islands also got their first win of the tournament with a comfortable eight-wicket win over Guyana, who slumped to their second straight big defeat.

Guyana, who were dismissed for 78 in their opening game against Jamaica, didn’t fare much better against the Leewards, making just 108 off 35.2 overs at the Cumberland Playing Field.

Only Thaddeus Lovell was able to provide any real resistance with 37 against Onaje Amory’s 3-21 off eight overs and Nathan Edwards’ 2-16 from six overs.

Malique Walsh then led the way for the Leewards with 52* as they reached 109-2 in 31.4 overs.

A day of tremendous momentum swings ended with Leeward Islands holding on with one wicket remaining to win the West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 championship in a roller coaster three-day final against Barbados at Arnos Vale in St. Vincent on Saturday.

Nathan Edwards, the left-handed allrounder ended unbeaten on 11, which came off 55 balls in over 90 minutes at the crease, played a defensive masterclass for to help Leewards hold on in their second innings on 51-9 (28 overs) to avoid being bowled out, to deny Barbados the title in dramatic fashion.

The day’s play began with Leeward Islands batting in their first innings on 172-4, 107 runs behind Barbados's first innings total of 279-8 declared.

 Overnight batsman Carl Bowen-Tuckett showed his experience during a crucial composed knock of 68 off 200 balls with two boundaries to anchor the Leewards before he was dismissed in the 98th over, ahead of the team tactical declaration on exactly 250-8 (110 overs), to receive key batting points for scoring 250 and facing that number of overs.

Although Barbados held a 29-run lead, Leewards had closed the points gap due to the fast bowling and batting points accumulated. So, when Edwards, bowling his left-arm medium, trapped Barbados opener Achilles Browne without scoring with the second delivery, that lead quickly became insignificant. Right-hand medium pacer Chamiqueko Landerfort took 4-16 as Barbados collapsed to 76-9.

The final equation to win the final meant Leewards either could chase down the 106 to win or just bat out the final session. While Barbados had to get all 10 wickets. When pacer Johan Layne struck in the first over of Leewards run chase, they started to wobble. Left-arm spinner Nathan Sealy with an inspired spell (14-8-10-6) was seemingly bowling Barbados to victory, but one final twist would occur.

Sealy unfortunately dropped Edwards at first slip with off fellow left-arm spinner Devon Stevenson which would have won Barbados the title. In the end Edwards and last man Onaje Armoy survived the final stages to win the championship for the Leeward Islands.
