Reggae Boy Corey Burke was on target once more for Lexington SC, but the Jamaican striker’s efforts weren’t enough to stop his team from falling 3-2 to San Antonio FC in a fiercely contested USL Championship clash on Saturday night.

Playing at home at Lexington SC Stadium, the Kentucky-based club showed early promise and took a 2-0 lead inside 16 minutes, but defensive lapses proved costly as they suffered their 12th loss of the season.

Lexington struck first in the 11th minute when Nick Firmino converted from close range after being set up by Kieran Sargeant. Then, just five minutes later, it was Burke who found the back of the net—coolly finishing a well-placed pass from Marcus Epps to double the lead. It was another sharp finish from the veteran forward, who joined Lexington in February and has consistently delivered in front of goal.

However, San Antonio FC hit back quickly. Jimmy Medranda halved the deficit in the 23rd minute before Jorge Hernandez drew the visitors level from the penalty spot two minutes later after Sargeant was shown a yellow card for a foul in the box.

The match remained finely poised in the second half, with both sides trading chances, but San Antonio goalkeeper Richard Sanchez came up with key saves to keep Lexington from regaining the advantage. The match-winner came in the 82nd minute when Jake LaCava buried a late chance to hand San Antonio the win.

Burke, who has played in MLS with the Philadelphia Union and New York Red Bulls, continues to lead Lexington’s front line with experience and poise. The 32-year-old Kingston native, who has earned over 30 caps for the Jamaican national team, remains one of the club’s most reliable attacking threats.

Lexington SC now shifts its attention to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, where they’ll face Columbus Crew 2 in the second round on April 1 at 6 p.m., hoping to turn the page.
