West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph had a forgettable day with the ball as his Peshawar Zalmi outfit were beaten handily by the Quetta Gladiators in the 2025 HBL Pakistan Super League opener at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

It all went wrong for the Zalmi from the start as, after winning the toss and choosing to field, they watched the Gladiators post 216-3 from their 20 overs thanks to some destructive batting.

Captain Saud Shakeel and New Zealander Finn Allen put on 88 in just seven overs for the first wicket and things just got worse from there for the Zalmi.

Shakeel led the scoring with 59 off 42 including six fours and two sixes while Allen’s 53 came off just 25 balls and included five fours and four sixes.

Hasan Nawaz and Kusal Mendis also played well for 41 and 35* off 14 balls, respectively.

Ali Raza took 1-31 from his four overs in the midst of the carnage while Sufiyan Muqeem took 1-39 from his four.

Joseph had a rough outing with the ball, conceding 53 from his four overs while picking up one wicket.

The Zalmi were then restricted to 136 all out in 15.1 overs in reply, losing by 80 runs.

Saim Ayub made 50 off 38 balls at the top of the order while Hussain Talat and Mitchell Owen made 35 and 31, respectively.

Abrar Ahmed led the bowling effort with 4-42 from his four overs of mystery spin while pacer Mohammed Amir and off spinner Usman Tariq took 2-11 and 2-26, respectively, in support.
