Chris Gayle and Avina Shah mix it up for Groove music video

The video for the song titled ‘Groove’ was shot in separate countries during the pandemic lockdown and Gayle is happy about the outcome saying the goal was to successfully mix Jamaican flavour with Indian and Western sounds.

“It’s my first collaboration with a female artist, thanks to Avina and I am looking forward to this release,” Gayle said in a promotional video on YouTube for what will be his second musical release.

“The concept came about, she would do her part in a bit of Indian and English, so it was my part to bring a bit of Jamaican flavour to the track.”

Avina, who described the hard-hitting batsman as an “absolute legend, who is not just a talented sportsman but is super talented in music as well”, said having him on the song was the highlight.

“I am happy with the sound that he brings to Groove and we can’t wait to see the response,” she said.

“The song is about letting go of your body, shaking that ‘thing’, just dancing to the beat and it’s kind of a bootylicious song.”

Gayle first tested the waters of the music industry back earlier this year with a remix of Stylo G’s Too Hot which received positive reviews from Jamaica’s music industry players.

Gayle is currently in Dubai preparing for the start of the 2020 season of the Indian Premier League.

Windies star Gayle has plans to make more music

The 41-year-old star batsman recently stepped in front of the mike with British-Indian singer Avina Shah for a single titled Groove.  The music video which was shot in two separate locations, during the pandemic, is also a mix of Indian and English, and is set to a lively, club-rocking beat.

The track wasn’t the musician’s first foray into the music entertainment business.  Earlier this year the star batsman recorded a remix of Jamaican entertainer Stylo G’s Too Hot.  The cricketer, who is known for having a good time, recently revealed that there is likely to be more to come from him in the future and even during his ongoing career.

“Well, I am someone who doesn’t really like to have limits in life. No limits is what I believe in. I love music and I am fun-loving by nature,” Gayle told IWMBuzz.

“I have recently got an entire music studio set up in my house and I will certainly be looking forward to making more songs to entertain the fans. I can happily say that music will now co-exist in my life along with cricket.”

Gayle isn’t the first West Indian cricketer to make an incursion into music and follows on the heels of all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.
