Vincentian Olympic finalist, Shafiqua Maloney, ran a meet record 1:59.07 to take the win in the women’s 800m at the 117th Millrose Games at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York on Saturday.
Maloney, who narrowly missed out on a medal with a fourth-place finish at the Paris Olympics last year, established a new world lead Saturday ahead of Americans Olivia Baker (2:00.02) and Kaela Edwards (2:00.14).
Elsewhere, World Indoor 60m champion and record holder Devynne Charlton and her Bahamian countrywoman Denisha Cartwright were third and fourth, respectively, in the women’s 60m hurdles.
Charlton, who broke the world record for the first time at last year’s Millrose Games with 7.67, ran 7.83 this time around to narrowly miss out on a top-two spot while Cartwright was just behind in fourth with 7.84.
Olympic champion Masai Russell took the win in a world leading 7.76 while her American counterpart Grace Stark was second in 7.82.
Jamaica’s national record holder Ackera Nugent was disqualified for a false start.
Earlier in the meet, Nugent ran 7.26 for second in the women’s 55m hurdles behind Russell who took top spot in 7.22. Stark and Charlton ran the same time (7.28) in third and fourth.
