Jamaican sprint hurdler and University of Miami track and field legend Gillian Russell-Love has been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame Class of 2025. The prestigious honour was announced on Wednesday, solidifying Russell-Love’s place among the greatest collegiate athletes in history.

Russell-Love, who was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2005, enjoyed a stellar collegiate career, earning NCAA All-American honours on nine occasions. She achieved this distinction three times in the 55m indoor hurdles, four times in the 100m outdoor hurdles, and twice as a member of the Hurricanes’ national championship-winning 4x100m relay teams.

Her dominance in collegiate athletics was marked by five NCAA championships and six Big East championships, showcasing her exceptional talent and consistency. Beyond her collegiate success, Russell-Love was a force on the international stage. She was the world junior champion in the hurdles in both 1990 and 1992, also helping Jamaica secure gold in the 4x100m relay at those championships.

Russell-Love’s career extended to the senior international level, where she represented Jamaica at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. She also competed at the 1993 and 1995 World Championships, further cementing her legacy as one of Jamaica’s most accomplished sprint hurdlers.

Russell-Love balanced her athletic career with academic excellence, earning a bachelor’s degree in finance and business administration from the University of Miami in 1996.

Her induction into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame is a testament to her remarkable contributions to the sport of track and field, both in the collegiate ranks and on the international stage. As she joins the Hall of Fame Class of 2025, Russell-Love’s legacy continues to inspire generations of athletes from Jamaica and beyond.
