Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is expecting "a lot more" from star duo Odell Beckham Jr. and Von Miller in Sunday's NFL showdown against the Green Bay Packers.

Beckham and Miller will make their second appearance since joining the Rams when the 7-3 Los Angeles franchise visit Lambeau Field.

After his release from the Cleveland Browns, Beckham debuted in the 31-10 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10 before the team's bye – the three-time Pro Bowler caught two passes for 18 yards.

Miller – acquired from the Denver Broncos in a blockbuster trade – was inactive for his first game before debuting against the 49ers, playing 45 of 68 snaps while recording two tackles.

McVay is anticipating an increased role for Beckham and Miller against the 8-3 Packers this week.

"A lot more, hopefully," McVay told reporters on Friday when asked if he expected to get more out of the pair in their second appearance for the Rams.

"Odell [is] just getting more familiar," McVay said. "I mean for him to be able to even play in the game against the Niners is an incredible credit to him."

"It helps because he's getting up to speed mentally," McVay added. "You don't take for granted how important those physical reps and the rapport that he and Matthew are continuing to develop is and so because we'll do a little bit more reps today, we'll end up getting about the same amount that we would in a normal week, so it will be a good thing, but he's done great."

McVay said: "Von did a good job, played a lot of snaps. I think he'll be that much more healthy, that much more fresh coming off the bye and giving his ankle another handful of days to continue to make progress and steps in the right direction without having any setbacks over these last couple of weeks."

Miller has been dealing with an ankle issue and the Super Bowl MVP added: "I'm feeling pretty good, feel a little bit more comfortable with the playbook, ankle is a whole lot healthier. So the bye week was great."

The Rams have lost two straight games following defeats to the 49ers and Tennessee Titans. According to Stats Perform, it is the first time the team have lost consecutive games with both being by double digits since McVay became head coach in 2017.

Odell Beckham Jr's departure from the Cleveland Browns is something that still stings for teammate Jarvis Landry.

Veteran wide receiver Beckham was released by the Browns last week, a move that came after his father complained on social media about his lack of involvement in the team's offense.

Beckham Sr posted an 11-minute video on Instagram, highlighting moments he felt Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield had failed to find his son.

Mayfield later stated he considered Beckham a "good friend" and wished him well.

Three-time Pro Bowler Beckham was sidelined with a torn ACL in 2020 and made 17 catches for 232 yards and zero touchdowns in six games for the Browns this season, before signing for the Los Angeles Rams.

For Landry, the exit of his friend is something that remains difficult to accept.

"It definitely was something that hurt. It stung. It still does," Jarvis said in quotes reported by the Akron Beacon Journal.

Mayfield's own form has been under scrutiny as he battles several injury complaints. Already contending with a left shoulder issue that may require surgery down the line, Mayfield has a sore foot and now a contusion on his right knee.

He threw for only 73 yards as the Browns were hammered 45-7 by the New England Patriots over the weekend but Landry leapt to the defence of his teammate.

"He's a tough man, and he's doing all the things necessary to make sure that he can be out there with us," Landry said.

"As playmakers, when the ball's in the air, we're doing our best and understanding and knowing that it's the situation where he's got to get healthy, but we're still out here making plays with each other, for each other, and he always gives his best.

"That's all you can ask for."

Landry has himself had issues this season, missing four games due to a knee sprain.

"I haven't been able to get the ball so much, either," he said.

"But at the end of the day I've been able to [make the most] with the opportunities I'm given.

"Yeah, I'm battling some things, but on Sundays I always give everything I have. And that will never change."

The Browns (5-5) are fourth in the AFC North and face the winless Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Kyle Shanahan was filled with pride as the San Francisco 49ers finally ended their long home-win drought with a 31-10 upset of the Los Angeles Rams, but he warned that cannot be a flash in the pan.

All eyes were on debutants Odell Beckham Jr. and Von Miller after the high-flying Rams (7-3) acquired the star duo to boost their Super Bowl bid.

But the 49ers (4-5) spoiled the party – Jimmy Garoppolo throwing two touchdown passes as San Francisco celebrated just their second home win in the past two seasons, keeping their playoff hopes alive on Monday.

The 49ers, who have now won five straight games against the Rams – the longest active streak by either side, matching their 2008-10 run – had last emerged victorious on home soil in October 2020, also over the Rams.

Part of that was down to the 49ers having to play part of the 2020 season in Arizona due to COVID-19 restrictions in Santa Clara, but there was still a sense of relief as they eventually enjoyed success in their own backyard.

Shanahan was grateful to put such a run behind them.

"It's been frustrating," he said. "We haven't won at home yet this year. The last time we did win at home was versus the Rams.

"We had one game after that versus the Packers, and we spent are our home [games] in Arizona, but just going to this year was very frustrating.

"Especially, the crowds that we've had, the way our fans have been. They were awesome today. Just like they were awesome last week, but I'm glad we gave them something to be proud of today.

"I just told [the team] how proud of them I was. I said we've got a short week. I think we've got a real good team [the Jacksonville Jaguars] ahead of us – that's how we expect to play here.

"It's been long overdue and we've got to make sure that we take a day off. Those guys rest, come back healthy on a short week, make sure we keep it going forward."

There were entirely different thoughts going through the head of Rams coach Sean McVay, however, with the Super Bowl hopefuls suffering back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

"I choose to believe that these last couple weeks are not who we are," he said. "I refuse to believe that, even though, you know what, you're only as good as your last game.

"These last two weeks have certainly been humbling."

Beckham was rather less dramatic, though, despite his debut being overshadowed by a chastening defeat.

The wide receiver, who joined the Rams as a free agent this week following his release by the Cleveland Browns, simply felt the 49ers were better all over the field.

"I was excited, I felt like I was ready for the moment," Beckham added. "I've been through so much and God has put me in this position for that exact moment.

"It just wasn't our night. There's really no way around it, it just wasn't our night. Any given Sunday any team can win.

"The Niners came out and they played better than us in all phases of the game, and that's really the moral of the story. There's no trying to find what happened, they just outplayed us."

The San Francisco 49ers won their first home game in more than a year after Jimmy Garoppolo helped fuel a 31-10 upset of the Super Bowl-chasing Los Angeles Rams.

All eyes were on debutants Odell Beckham Jr. and Von Miller after the high-flying Rams (7-3) acquired the star duo to boost their Super Bowl bid.

But the 49ers (4-5) spoiled the party – Garoppolo throwing two touchdown passes as San Francisco celebrated just their second home in the past two seasons, keeping their playoff hopes alive on Monday.

The 49ers, who have now won five straight games against the Rams – the longest active streak by either side, matching their 2008-10 run – had last emerged victorious on home soil in October 2020, also over the Rams.

Matthew Stafford (26-of-41 passing for 243 yards, a TD, two interceptions and two sacks) struggled as the Rams dropped back-to-back games, with the Los Angeles quarterback intercepted by Jimmie Ward on the opening two drives of the contest.

Ward's second interception led to a 27-yard touchdown return as he became the seventh player since 2000 with two interceptions – including a pick-six, in the opening quarter after Garoppolo (15-of-19 passing for 182 yards, two TDs and no interceptions) had led an 18-play, 93-yard TD drive less than a minute earlier.

Stafford has now thrown a pick-six in back-to-back games for the first time since his rookie season in 2009.

Leading 14-0 following the first quarter, the 49ers maintained that buffer as the teams traded touchdowns prior to half-time – Stafford throwing a 10-yard pass to Tyler Higbee before Deebo Samuel ran for an eight-yard score.

After Robbie Gould's 50-yard field goal stretched the lead in the third period, Samuel and Garoppolo combined for a 40-yard touchdown pass to put the 49ers out of reach early in the fourth.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is confident Odell Beckham Jr. will contribute to the Super Bowl-chasing franchise as he hailed the star wide receiver.

Beckham agreed a deal with the Rams on Thursday after clearing waivers following his release from the Cleveland Browns.

The Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks were also reportedly interested in the free agent.

Now in Los Angeles, where the Rams are 7-2 and second in the NFC West, Stafford praised the three-time NFL Pro Bowler.

"It's an opportunity for us as a team, it's an opportunity for him to come in here and prove himself to us," Stafford told reporters.

"What our room is about in the receiver room is pretty special. I know he'll fit right in and continue to get better and hopefully help us as a team."

Beckham was sidelined with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in 2020 and has made 17 catches for 232 yards and zero touchdowns in six games this season.

The 29-year-old was traded to the Browns by the New York Giants in 2019, where he topped 1,000 yards in four of his five seasons. The year he failed to hit that mark he spent most of the campaign out with an ankle injury.

Julio Jones (103.8) and Antonio Brown (100.6) were the only wide receivers to average more yards per game than Beckham (92.8) between 2014 and 2018.

Stafford added: "Everybody on our team carves out their role. They do a great job of figuring out what that role is going to be and going out there and proving it both on the practice field and in games, and given the opportunities I know he'll do the same."

Rams wide receiver Robert Woods said: "We're all working for the same goal. His thing is, I feel like, why he left -- he wanted to be a part of it and contribute, and I think just coming into this offense, he wants to work and contribute.

"We're all working toward the same goal: winning, grinding. I don't think it should be anything disruptive.''

The high-flying Rams face the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.

Odell Beckham Jr. has signed for the Los Angeles Rams following his release by the Cleveland Browns.

The veteran wide receiver officially left Cleveland on Monday and no other NFL team put in a claim on him before Tuesday's deadline, making him a free agent.

Beckham had initially asked to be traded before last week's NFL deadline but no deal materialised and he opted to miss practice for the rest of the week.

He cleared waivers on Tuesday and was subsequently able to pick his next team, with ESPN reporting earlier in the week that he planned to sign with a playoff contender.

The 7-2 Rams are second in the NFC West, with the Arizona Cardinals (8-1) the only team in the NFL with a better record.

That came after his father, Odell Beckham Sr., complained on social media about Beckham Jr.'s lack of involvement in the Browns' offence.

Beckham Sr. posted a lengthy video on Instagram showing a number of occasions on which Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield failed to find his team-mate.

Mayfield said after the Browns routed the Cincinnati Bengals 41-16 Sunday that he considers Beckham a "good friend" and wishes him well.

Odell Beckham Jr will not be heading to the Detroit after head coach Dan Campbell confirmed the Lions do not intend to claim him.

Having failed to get a trade away from the Browns before the deadline, wide receiver Beckham is expected to be waived by Cleveland on Monday and hit the waiver wire on Tuesday.

The Lions are 0-8 this season and will be first in line to snap up a significant talent at a position they could do with improving, but Campbell ruled out such a move happening.

Asked if Detroit would be in the market for Beckham, Campbell simply replied: "Uh, no."

He later added: "[General manager] Brad [Holmes] and I talk about everything, and he was no different. I would leave it at that.

"Our ears and our eyes are open to everything, and if there was a certain way to make things work, we'd be open for just about any player if it made sense."

It has been reported no team will make a claim for Beckham, meaning he will become a free agent capable of signing with any team.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield said he wishes "good friend" Odell Beckham Jr. well after the NFL franchise won for the first time since the split.

The Browns released star wide receiver Beckham Jr. on Friday, having been excused from practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

That came after both his father, Odell Beckham Sr., and four-time NBA MVP LeBron James complained on social media about Beckham Jr.'s lack of involvement in the Browns' offense.

Beckham Sr. posted a lengthy video on Instagram showing a number of occasions on which Mayfield failed to find his team-mate.

On Sunday, without three-time Pro Bowler Beckham Jr., the Browns routed the Cincinnati Bengals 41-16.

"I wish him well, I really do. My feelings haven't changed," Mayfield said of Beckham Jr.

"From a personal standpoint, he's a good friend of mine. ... But I'm worried about the guys in our locker room.

"I'm proud of these guys, how they were able to focus up despite all the bulls*** that was going on this week and how they were able to do their job. We're going to see if we can build on it and continue to get better."

Beckham Jr. is set to go on waivers on Monday and Mayfield added: "We still haven't talked. But that doesn't change things. I wish him well. I wish him the best in his career."

Mayfield completed 14 of his 21 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns without an interception as the Browns improved to 5-4.

"We needed that win. Our whole locker room needed it. And they knew that. Played for each other," Mayfield said. "I trust the guys in this locker room.

"When adversity hit, nobody flinched. It was a long week. I'd be lying if I said otherwise. But proud of these guys."

Baker Mayfield threw a 60-yard touchdown to Donovan Peoples-Jones as the Cleveland Browns won without Odell Beckham Jr in Week 9, although Joe Burrow contributed to the Cincinnati Bengals' 41-16 defeat.

The Browns made the short trip to Cincinnati with Peoples-Jones back from a groin injury and in the lineup after fellow receiver Beckham was released at the end of a week that began with his father criticising quarterback Mayfield.

Beckham had underwhelmed this year since his return to fitness and his absence certainly was not felt on Sunday as Cleveland moved to 5-4 in a big AFC North matchup.

Before Mayfield came to the fore, though, Burrow endured a miserable start. Moments after a penalty reprieve when he was sacked on third and goal, the Bengals QB threw straight to Browns cornerback Denzel Ward on the goal line, covering Ja'Marr Chase and racing away for a 99-yard defensive TD.

Joe Mixon replied with the first of his two rushing scores, but Nick Chubb battled through contact to finish Cleveland's first drive with a TD, which Peoples-Jones added to as he caught Mayfield's first target to a wideout.

Long scores were the name of the day for the Browns, as Chubb's second saw him go 70 yards to score in the third quarter.

Burrow, who had scored three TDs in each of his previous three games, tying a Bengals record, was then picked off again throwing to Chase – this time by John Johnson III. Chase had earlier fumbled for a turnover of his own on a miserable day for two of Cincinnati's offensive stars.

Mayfield finished with 218 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions on 14-of-21 passing. His second TD pass to David Njoku was set up by another throw to Peoples-Jones, who had 86 yards on just two catches.

Big upsets for Boys and Bills

The Dallas Cowboys had not lost since Week 1 but have a miserable record against the Denver Broncos, who had won the teams' past six meetings – their best ever run against a single opponent and the Cowboys' worst such streak. And six became seven as the Broncos won 30-16 in Dallas, holding their hosts scoreless until the fourth quarter despite Dak Prescott's return.

The Buffalo Bills also suffered a shock defeat as they went down 9-6 to the Jacksonville Jaguars in a game of zero touchdowns. Jaguars defensive end Josh Allen picked, sacked and recovered a fumble from his namesake, Bills QB Josh Allen.

However, the Baltimore Ravens survived a scare, as Lamar Jackson led them back from 17-3 down to make overtime, where Justin Tucker clinched a 34-31 win. Jackson is now 12-0 as a starter against NFC opponents.

Darnold spooked again

Sam Darnold said he was "seeing ghosts" when he threw four interceptions for the New York Jets against the New England Patriots in 2019, and Bill Belichick's defense has continued to spook the quarterback. He had three picks with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and now has nine in just four career starts against New England, all four of which the Pats have won.

New England are hot on the heels of the Bills now, while AFC East rivals the Miami Dolphins snapped their seven-game losing run against the Houston Texans despite Tua Tagovailoa sitting out with a finger issue.

Releasing Odell Beckham Jr is "in the best interest of all parties", according to Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry.

The Browns confirmed on Friday that the wide receiver is poised to be released after being excused from practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

That came after both his father, Odell Beckham Sr, and four-time NBA MVP LeBron James complained on social media about Beckham's lack of involvement in the Browns' offense.

The situation appeared to have reached the point of no return, leading to reports Beckham would be released once he had signed a restructured contract for salary cap reasons.

When his release goes through, Beckham will go on waivers, where he can be claimed by another team. Should he clear waivers, he will be free to sign with any team of his choice.

Berry explained the move was coming only after long deliberation.

He said in a statement: "After careful consideration, internal discussions and conversations with Odell and his representation, we have determined that it is in the best interest of all parties that Odell no longer play for the Cleveland Browns.

"We appreciate all his efforts and contributions while in Cleveland, but it has just reached a point where it is best that we move forward as a team without Odell.

"We are finalising the process of granting Odell his release and we wish him well as he continues his career."

Beckham was traded to the Browns by the New York Giants in 2019, though he has failed to hit the heights expected during his time in Cleveland.

He finished his first season in Cleveland with 1,035 receiving yards, but the Browns missed out on the playoffs.

Beckham was sidelined with a torn ACL in 2020 as the Browns ended their postseason drought, reaching the Divisional Round, and he returned from that injury in Week 3 of this season.

So far this year, Beckham has made 17 catches for 232 yards for a Browns team that sit last in the AFC North at 4-4 as quarterback Baker Mayfield, who was seemingly the target of the ire of Beckham's father, has battled a torn labrum.

Despite his struggles in Cleveland, Beckham – a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time second-team All-Pro with the Giants – would seemingly have plenty of interest in his services.

He topped 1,000 yards in four of his five seasons with the Giants – most of 2017 was lost to an ankle injury – with Julio Jones (103.8) and Antonio Brown (100.6) the only wide receivers between 2014 and 2018 to average more yards per game than Beckham (92.8).

Odell Beckham Jr. is expected to be released by the Cleveland Browns, according to multiple reports.

Beckham was excused from practice on Wednesday and Thursday, with Tuesday having seen both his father, Odell Beckham Sr, and four-time NBA MVP LeBron James complain on social media about his lack of involvement in the Browns' offense.

And the situation appears to have reached the point of no return, with Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk reporting the Browns plan to release him on Friday.

Adam Schefter of ESPN and NFL Network reported the Browns are working on a restructured deal with Beckham. Once that is finalised, he will be released and go on waivers, where he can be claimed by another team.

Should he clear waivers, he will be free to sign with any team of his choice.

According to Schefter, the Browns are attempting to convert Beckham's $14.5mlillion 2021 base salary into signing bonuses in an effort to save money.

Baker Mayfield was "pretty surprised" by Odell Beckham Sr's apparent criticism of the Cleveland Browns quarterback, insisting he wants the best for Odell Beckham Jr.

The Browns wide receiver was thrust into the spotlight ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday when his father posted a lengthy video on Instagram showing a number of occasions on which Mayfield failed to find his team-mate.

Beckham Sr. also responded to comments criticising Mayfield, seemingly agreeing the one-time Heisman Trophy winner was hampering his son's performances.

Beckham Jr., who returned from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Week 3 this year, has 17 catches for 232 yards and zero touchdowns for the 4-4 Browns, who are bottom of the AFC North. He has been targeted 34 times.

In the six games before his Week 7 injury in 2020, Beckham had 23 receptions on 42 targets for 319 yards and three TDs.

With Mayfield – who is averaging a career-high 8.3 yards per passing attempt but has tossed only six TD scores – blamed by Beckham Sr., he described himself as "surprised" but not "hurt".

"I've had conversations with his dad before, man-to-man, face-to-face, and I was pretty surprised by the video and the intentions and the feelings behind it," Mayfield said.

He added: "Naturally, he wants his son to succeed. I can't blame him for that. I want Odell to succeed. That's where we were at – or at least so I thought."

Beckham will do well to succeed from the sideline, though. He was "excused" from practice on Wednesday, coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed, with his future in doubt despite staying in Cleveland.

Should he return, Mayfield is willing to work with Beckham again, having had 110 completions for 1,513 passing yards from 202 targets throwing to the former New York Giants wideout – second to Jarvis Landry in each category for the QB's NFL career.

"If he's back, then we'll work through it and do whatever it takes," Mayfield said. "I can put my ego and pride to the side to win. Because that's all I care about is winning.

"If not, then we'll roll with the guys we have out there. And those guys will know that I completely trust them, and they'll know that I'm always here for them, and that's the leader and the type of quarterback I am."

The Browns actually have a better record without Beckham than with him since his 2019 signing, going 14-15 when the receiver is in the team compared to 7-4 when he is missing.

Odell Beckham Jr remained with the Cleveland Browns beyond the trade deadline, but his future became no clearer on Wednesday when he was "excused" from practice.

Despite Beckham not being realistically seen as a mover before the deadline on Tuesday, he was the source of plenty of conversation due to his disappointing returns this season.

The Browns wide receiver has 17 catches for 232 yards and zero touchdowns since returning from a torn ACL in Week 3.

Odell Beckham Sr posted a lengthy video on Instagram on Tuesday showing Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield repeatedly failing to find his son.

NBA great LeBron James, an Ohio native, tweeted "#FreeOBJ", saying Beckham would "show again why he's special".

But when Beckham gets the opportunity to do so is in significant doubt, with the player not attending practice with his team-mates on Wednesday.

Asked if the former New York Giants wideout was still a member of the team, coach Kevin Stefanski replied cryptically: "I would just tell you today he is excused, and we will see where this goes."

Mayfield's media availability was postponed on Wednesday, and he has yet to comment.
