Jamaica’s U-15 Boys narrowly missed out on top spot in the U15 Boys’ Teams category at the ongoing Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF) Regional Youth Championships in Barbados.
The young Jamaicans, after comfortably winning their two Group 2 encounters against Trinidad & Tobago (3-1) and Grenada (3-0) on Sunday and Monday, respectively, advanced to the semi-finals as one of the top two seeds alongside Puerto Rico, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago.
They then took on the Bajans in the semis on Tuesday, defeating them 3-0 before facing the top-seeded Puerto Ricans, who beat T&T 3-0 in the semis, in the final.
There, they would suffer their only defeat of the tournament, a 0-3 loss to end up with silver.
The Under-19 Boys team got to the quarterfinals before losing 1-3 to Cuba who fell to Puerto Rico in the final four.
The Under-19 Girls failed to advance past the group stage after winning only one of their three matches.
Players will now turn their attention to the singles and doubles categories in all age groups across both genders set to begin on Wednesday.
The tournament ends on the 26th of April.
