Jamaica’s Robert Simpson delivered a strong performance in Men’s Singles action on the opening day of the 2025 World Bowls Indoor Championship, securing a hard-fought victory over the USA’s Bill Brault in Warilla, Australia. However, it was a mixed start overall for the Jamaican contingent, as Maureen Caesar fell in her Women’s Singles match and the duo later suffered defeat in the Mixed Pairs competition.

Simpson, representing Jamaica for the second year in a row at the prestigious global indoor event, edged Brault in a closely contested encounter. The match ended 1-1 in sets, but Simpson’s superior shot count gave him the edge to claim all three match points, finishing with a 15-12 aggregate score.

The result provided an encouraging start for the Jamaican camp, but the momentum didn’t carry through to Caesar’s match. Facing Ireland’s Zoe Minish in the Women’s Singles, Caesar struggled to find rhythm against her experienced opponent. Minish took both sets comfortably, conceding just two points in total as she wrapped up the match 2-0 (24-2) to claim all three match points.

In the Mixed Pairs match later in the day, Simpson and Caesar combined forces but were outmatched by the Hungary/Scotland No. 3 pair of Gabor Foti and Kay Rendal. The Jamaican team failed to win a set or secure a point in a 2-0 (21-10) defeat, as Foti and Rendal dominated from start to finish.

The World Bowls Indoor Championship continues throughout the week, with Jamaica looking to rebound in the remaining group matches.
