February 2025 marks the dawn of a new era in Caribbean motorsport with the launch of the Caribbean Drag Racing Championship (CDRC), an ambitious initiative that unites the region’s top drag racers in a high-stakes, invitation-only competition. This groundbreaking championship, organized by the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) in collaboration with the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF), the Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD), the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMRSC), and the Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA), is officially registered with the FiA’s National Calendar platform. Featuring sixteen thrilling events across Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, and Jamaica, the CDRC is set to redefine regional motorsport excellence.

Unlike traditional drag racing tournaments, the CDRC is a closed competition in which participants are handpicked by their National Sporting Authority, ensuring that only the most elite racers take part. With no entry fees required, competitors will represent their nations in a structured battle for supremacy, making this one of the most accessible and prestigious events in Caribbean motorsport history. The championship’s innovative format incorporates a points-based system, where racers earn their place in the finals by excelling in three nationally staged events. The top sixteen competitors from each class across all participating countries will then converge in Jamaica in January 2026 for the ultimate showdown.

The competition features two primary classes, Pro Street (10.999 to 10.000 seconds) and Pro Race (9.999 to 9.000 seconds), offering a platform for the best racers to demonstrate their skills in tightly contested matchups. Winners of the championship will not only earn coveted trophies and prize money but will also contribute to the recognition and development of their respective National Sporting Authorities, further bolstering the sport’s growth across the Caribbean.

The launch of the CDRC has garnered widespread support from key figures in the motorsport community. FiA Vice President for Sport for North America, Daniel Coen, applauded the initiative, emphasizing the positive evolution of Caribbean motorsport. David Williams, Vice President of the Barbados Motoring Federation, echoed these sentiments, praising Jamaica’s leadership in fostering regional collaboration. Representatives from BADD, the Cayman Motoring Federation, GMRSC, and TTASA also expressed their excitement, highlighting the championship’s role in uniting racers and elevating the profile of Caribbean drag racing.

The championship is set to kick off with its first qualifying events on February 16, 2025, in Barbados and Guyana, marking the beginning of a series of national races that will run through November. The competition will then take a brief pause for the Christmas season before culminating in the highly anticipated Championship Final in Jamaica in January 2026.

Stephen Gunter, Chairman of the JMMC, emphasized the importance of the championship, calling it a testament to the dedication and passion of the region’s motorsport community. He expressed confidence that the CDRC will set a new benchmark for drag racing in the Caribbean, delivering an electrifying spectacle for fans and competitors alike.
