Jamaica enjoyed a successful outing at the 2025 Pat Shaw Memorial Wrestling Championships held from May 31 to June 1 in Guatemala City, claiming two gold medals in dominant fashion.
Tyrece Lincoln Thompson led the charge in the 125kg category, securing gold for Jamaica without conceding a single point to his opponents. Thompson’s technical superiority throughout the competition earned him maximum team ranking points, solidifying his status as one of the Caribbean’s most formidable heavyweight wrestlers.
Joining him at the top of the podium was Richard Emmanuel Austin Alexander, who delivered an equally commanding performance in the 97kg weight class. Alexander defeated Nicaragua’s Francisco Boanerges Herrera Lopez in the final, accumulating 9 points while giving up only 2. His aggressive style and tactical precision contributed 25 team ranking points to Jamaica’s overall tally.
Barbados also featured on the medal table through Kwami Hashim Inniss, who battled to a silver medal in the 79kg category. Inniss was edged out by Guatemala’s Angel Andre Catalan Martinez, who scored 33 points across his matches and claimed gold in front of a home crowd. Inniss, who contributed 20 points to the Barbadian team, demonstrated strong mat awareness and resilience, outperforming Costa Rica’s Elias Quiros Abarca and another Guatemalan, Carlos Rene Junior Gonzalez Saenz.
