The Golden State Warriors are on the verge of playoff elimination, and look set to go into a must-win Game 5 clash without Stephen Curry.

Stephen Curry said he would not be available for the Golden State Warriors' must-win Game 5 clash with the Minnesota Timberwolves due to injury.

Curry has missed the Warriors' last three games in their Western Conference semifinals against Minnesota after picking up a hamstring issue in their Game 1 victory last week.

In the two-time MVP's absence, Golden State now trail 3-1 in the series, and know a victory in their next meeting is a must if they are to keep their season alive.

The Timberwolves ran out 117-110 winners in Game 4 as Anthony Edwards led his team with 30 points and five assists.

And Curry, who averaged 24.5 points for the Warriors in the regular season, said his involvement in Game 5 was unlikely ahead of further assessment on Wednesday.

"Even if I wanted to be Superman, I couldn't," Curry said, referring to his left hamstring injury.

The "Superman" remark referred to a comment by Golden State's Draymond Green after the Warriors' defeat on Monday.

In Golden State's seven-game win over the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs, Curry averaged 24 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists.

He also had 13 points in less than a half against Minnesota in Game 1, though Green reiterated that Curry should not rush back to be in contention for Game 5.

"No, we're not going to Superman this thing," Green said when asked about Curry trying to push through the injury to feature in their next match.

"If he's in a place where he can play, I'm sure he will. Him and Rick [Celebrini, Warriors vice president of player health and performance] and everybody will figure that out.

"But we don't need [Curry to try to be] Superman.

"Got to play the long game. If he can, we know he will. But there's no pressure. We've got to figure out how to win whether he plays or not."
