Driven by a hunger for success, St Lucia’s Julien Alfred won the sprint double at the Big 12 indoor Track and Field Championships on the weekend spurring the University of Texas Longhorns women’s team to their third straight team title.

St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred said her fast 60m dash over the weekend came as a bit of a surprise but it augurs well for the season ahead in which she aims to be in Tokyo next summer representing her country at the 2020 Olympic Games.

When Julien Alfred crossed the line in the 200m at the Big 12 Championships at the John Jacobs Complex in Oklahoma this past weekend she was third in 22.90 behind her Texas teammates Teahna Daniels and Kynnedy Flannel who were both given 22.71 for first and second, respectively.

Former Excelsior High School and Mico University sprinter Andel Miller will leave the island in January for the Western Texas College with the goal of representing Jamaica at the next Olympic Games.

World Youth Olympics 100m silver medallist Julien Alfred has committed to the University of Texas.
