Assistant Coach of the Reggae Girlz Andrew Price on Tuesday praised the team for the character they showed during their nervy 1-0 win over Costa Rica but said there are concerns over the team’s inability to maintain possession of the football.

A single goal from striker Khadijah Shaw saw Jamaica pull a tense 1-0 victory over Costa Rica as the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championships in the United States on Monday.

Costa Rica spoiled Cuba's debut in the 2018 concacaf Women's Championship as it recorded an 8-0 victory in the Group B opener at H-E-B Park on Friday night. 

Locally based members of the Reggae Girlz are scheduled to the island on Sunday for Texas in the United States where they begin their campaign in the CONCACAF Women's Championships from October 4-17.


Head coach of Jamaica’s Reggae Girls, Hue Menzies, is tempering expectations for the national team who has been drawn alongside Canada, Costa Rica, and Cuba in Group B of the CONCACAF Women’s Championships set for the United States next month.

While the Reggae Girlz fashioned a 2-1 win over hosts Colombia in their final group game of the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, the victory was bittersweet as it was not enough to see them into the next round. 

Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz are on the verge of crashing out of the Central American and Caribbean Games group stage after suffering a second 2-1 defeat in the tournament, this time at the hands of Costa Rica. 

Jamaica’s senior women’s football team, the Reggae Girlz, will seek to lift themselves with a positive result against Costa Rica to put themselves back in contention for top honours in the Central American and Caribbean Games, at the Estadio Julio Torres Moderno on Saturday, July 21, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
