Brayden Schenn's goal 1:04 into overtime lifted the St. Louis Blues to a season-high fifth consecutive win, a 4-3 victory over the still-struggling Los Angeles Kings on Sunday.

Jordan Kyrou had a goal and two assists and Joel Hofer made 30 saves as the Blues won their fourth straight game by a 4-3 score. Pavel Buchnevich added a goal before setting up Schenn's game-winner by intercepting a pass from Los Angeles' Phillip Danault.

Danault, Adrian Kempe and Jaret Anderson-Dolan all had goals in the Kings' fourth consecutive loss. Los Angeles is now 2-8-6 since Dec. 28.

St. Louis trailed 2-1 before Buchnevich scored on a power play 6:34 into the second period. The goal came 55 seconds after Anderson-Dolan knocked in a feed from Trevor Lewis for a short-handed goal that briefly put the Kings ahead.

Kyrou's goal with 7:53 left in the second gave the Blues a 3-2 edge, but Danault tied it later in the period by ripping a shot past Hofer. 

Kempe's 17th goal of the season opened the scoring 4:06 in before Nick Leddy drew the Blues even with 7:09 left in the first period.

David Rittich finished with 28 saves for Los Angeles. 

Eberle's two goals help Kraken hold off Blue Jackets

Jordan Eberle recorded two goals and an assist and the Seattle Kraken held off a late comeback effort from the Columbus Blue Jackets to earn a 4-2 win.

Joey Daccord had 30 saves and Brandon Tanev tacked on an empty-net goal in the final seconds as the Kraken improved to 2-0-1 over a three-game stretch that followed a four-game streak of regulation losses.

All of Eberle's points came during a dominant first period that staked Seattle to a 3-0 lead. The veteran forward's two goals both came on the power play, and he set up Jared McCann with just under four minutes left in the period for the Kraken's second goal. 

After managing just 14 shots on Daccord over the first two periods, Columbus sprung to life with 18 in the third as Yegor Chinakhov produced both Blue Jackets goals. The second, which came on a breakaway off a Seattle turnover, cut the lead to 3-2 with 4:02 remaining.

Daccord made four saves in the final 3:45, however, before Tanev scored with 13 seconds left to seal the victory.

Daniil Tarasov stopped 22 of 25 shots for Columbus, which has now lost seven of its last nine games (2-5-2).

Another game, another win for the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers beat the Nashville Predators 4-1 on Saturday for their 16th win in a row to move within one victory of the longest winning streak in NHL history.

Edmonton (29-15-1) now begins the All-Star break and won't have a chance to match the record held by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins until February 6, when it visits the Vegas Golden Knights.

With the win, the Oilers tied the league's second-longest single-season winning streak, held by 2016-17 Columbus Blue Jackets.

Connor McDavid led the way, tallying a goal and three assists, while Leon Draisaitl recorded a goal and two assists for the Oilers, who improved to 24-3-0 since November 24.

The Oilers, who last lost on December 19, are outscoring teams 61-24 during the winning streak and have a franchise-record streak of 14 consecutive games of allowing two goals or less.

Stuart Skinner had another solid showing between the pipes, turning aside 28 shots. He has yielded one goal in each of his last three games and has started 12 games during the winning streak, posting a 1.41 goals-against average in those outings.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins opened the scoring for Edmonton with a power-play goal in the first period and Zach Hyman ended the scoring with an empty-netter for his 30th goal of the season.

Draisaitl scored on the power-play for his 800th career point to reach that milestone in his 683rd game - the fourth-fastest player to reach that mark.

Colton Sissons had the lone goal for the Predators (26-22-1), who lost for the third time in four games.

Matthews scores league-leading 40th goal as Maple Leafs beat Jets

Auston Matthews reached a pair of milestones in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets, scoring his league-leading 40th goal to reach 600 career points.

Matthews, who has three more goals than the Florida Panthers' Sam Reinhart, has scored in three straight games and has seven goals and three assists in his last six contests.

Playing in his 527th game, Matthews became the fastest skater in Toronto franchise history to 600 career points with his power-play goal with 4:32 to play in the third period.

Ilya Samsonov finished with 24 saves as the Maple Leafs (25-14-8) swept a home-and-home set with the Jets and extended their winning streak to three games.

Ryan Reaves, John Tavares and Simon Benoit also scored goals for Toronto in the final game for both teams before the All-Star break.

Winnipeg's Dylan Samberg opened the scoring when the defenseman found the back of the net on the Jets' first shot of the game 4:13 into the first period.

Mason Appleton added a late goal for the Jets (30-12-5), who lost their third straight game after losing just three of their previous 17 contests (14-1-2).

Rangers score 7 straight goals to rally by Senators

The New York Rangers are heading into the All-Star break on a positive note, rallying from a 2-0 deficit for a 7-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Artemi Panarin was one of six Ranger skaters recording multiple points, tallying a goal and two assists, as New York (30-16-3) bounced back from back-to-back defeats and enters the break atop the Metropolitan Division.

After falling behind 2-0, the Rangers erupted for five goals in the second period, tying the game on Chris Kreider's 23rd goal of the season. New York took the lead just 39 seconds later on Zac Jones' first goal.

With the victory, first-year Rangers coach Peter Laviolette moved into a tie for seventh place on the all-time wins list, sitting alongside Al Arbour with 782.

The Senators (18-25-2) lost in regulation for the first time since January 16 after going 3-0-2 in their previous five contests.

Logan O’Connor scored twice and Nathan MacKinnon extended his home point streak to a franchise-record 25 games as the Colorado Avalanche rolled to a 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Friday.

Cale Makar and Josh Manson also scored for the Avalanche, who won for the 11th time in 14 games.

MacKinnon had a goal and an assist to move past Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov for the NHL scoring lead with 84 points. He has points in 12 consecutive games overall and his 25-game home streak ties him with Bobby Orr in 1974-75 for the second-longest home streak to open an NHL season.

Kevin Fiala scored the lone goal for the Kings, who have lost 13 of 15 after starting the season 20-7-4.

Marchessault scores 3 in Knights’ win

Jonathan Marchessault registered his second hat trick of the season and Adin Hill stopped 36 shots to lead the surging Vegas Golden Knights to a 5-2 win over the New York Rangers.

Keegan Kolesar and Sheldon Rempal also scored, and Ivan Barbashev had three assists as Vegas improved to 5-0-1 in its last six games.

Blake Wheeler and Kaapo Kaako had goals for the Rangers, who have lost nine of 13 this month (4-7-2).

Hill has stopped 76 of 80 shots in two starts since returning from an injury that sidelined him over a month.

Red-hot Reinhart lifts Panthers in shootout

Sam Reinhart scored the deciding goal in the shootout after scoring his 36th goal of the season in regulation as the Florida Panthers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-2.

Reinhart continued his career-best 12-game point streak with his 13th goal during that span. He ranks second in the NHL in goals behind only Toronto’s Auston Matthews (39).

Reinhart’s goal was his league-best 19th on the power play, matching a franchise record, shared by Scott Mellanby and Pavel Bure. Reinhart also has goals in a franchise-record eight straight road contests.

Evgeni Malkin scored the tying goal for Pittsburgh with 41.5 seconds left in regulation. The Penguins have one win in their last six games (1-2-3).

Calvin Pickard made 27 saves for his first shutout in over five years and the Edmonton Oilers won their 15th straight game, 3-0 over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.

Connor McDavid scored twice and set up a goal by Zach Hyman as Edmonton became just the fifth team in NHL history to win 15 or more consecutive games.

The Mario Lemieux-era Pittsburgh Penguins hold the NHL record with a 17-game winning streak set during the 1992-93 season, while the 2016-17 Columbus Blue Jackets own the second-longest run at 16 games.

The Oilers are 23-3-0 in their last 26 games and have gone a franchise-record 13 straight games allowing two or fewer goals.

Pickard’s shutout was his first since a 4-0 win over the New York Rangers on Nov. 23, 2018, when he was with Philadelphia.

Chicago tied a franchise record with its 19th consecutive road loss (0-18-1), set in 1953-54 and matched in 2003-04.

Lightning’s Kucherov adds 3 more points

Red-hot Nikita Kucherov had a goal and two assists and Steven Stamkos recorded his 1,100th career point to lift the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 6-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes.

Kucherov, coming off a four-point game in a victory over Philadelphia on Tuesday, raised his season total to a league-leading 83 points, one ahead of Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon. Kucherov also reached 50 assists in fewer than 50 games for the third time in his career, one of only nine players to accomplish that.

Brayden Point scored one goal and set up another to help Tampa Bay win its fifth straight at home. The Lightning have won seven of eight overall.

Stamkos notched his milestone point with an assist on Kucherov’s goal and scored a power-play goal of his own in the second period.

Hurricanes beat Devils to stay hot

Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen each scored one goal and set up another and Antti Raanta stopped 23 shots in the Carolina Hurricanes’ 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

Jordan Staal also scored for the Hurricanes, who won a night earlier at East-leading Boston and improved to 10-2-1 since Christmas.

Justin Dowling and Jesper Bratt scored third-period goals for New Jersey, which has lost four of its last six games.

Nathan MacKinnon scored three of his four goals consecutively and added an assist and Mikko Rantanen had a goal and four assists to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 6-2 rout of the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.

MacKinnon’s first goal of the game at 2:39 of the second period extended Colorado’s lead to 2-0, and he made it 3-0 at the 7-minute mark. He notched his third goal of the game 2:16 later and completed his second four-goal game of the season with 3:46 remaining in the third period.

MacKinnon, who drew an assist on Rantanen’s third-period goal, leads the NHL with 82 points, two more than Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov.

The Avalanche superstar extended his home point streak to 24 games to break a tie with Joe Sakic for the franchise record. MacKinnon has 11 goals and 15 assists during an overall 12-game point streak.

Cale Makar set the franchise record for goals by a defenseman with his 76th and Colorado improved to 10-1-0 in its last 11 home games.

Canucks rally to extend point streak in OT loss

Pius Suter completed his hat trick with 52 seconds left in regulation and the Vancouver Canucks pushed their point streak to 10 games with a 4-3 overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Brayden Schenn scored the game-winner at 1:54 of overtime after Vancouver battled back from a 3-1 deficit in the third behind Suter’s two goals.

Jake Neighbours had a goal and an assist to help the Blues win their third straight.

Quinn Hughes had a pair of assists as the Canucks moved to 8-0-2 in their last 10 games and increased the league’s highest point total to 69.

Hurricanes cool Bruins with late goal

Jordan Martinook scored with 2 ½ minutes remaining and Spencer Martin made 26 saves to win his Hurricanes debut as Carolina ended the Boston Bruins’ six-game winning streak, 3-2.

Boston rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period on goals by Brad Marchand, but Martinook beat Linus Ullmark on a breakaway for the winner.

Martin Necas and Teuvo Teravainen also scored for the Hurricanes, who have won five straight road games.

Marchand’s goals gave him 395, tying him with Ray Bourque for fifth on the team’s all-time list. Bourque scored 395 of his 410 career goals with the Bruins.

Evander Kane and Connor McDavid scored 55 seconds apart in the third period and the Edmonton Oilers extended their franchise-record winning streak to 14 games with a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

Warren Foegele and Dylan Holloway also scored and Stuart Skinner made 27 saves as Edmonton became the seventh team in NHL history to win 14 in a row.

Edmonton improved to 22-3 in its last 25 games and is nearing the NHL record for longest winning streak of 17, set by Pittsburgh in 1992-93.

Skinner won his 11th straight game, passing Grant Fuhr for the longest single-season winning streak in franchise history.

Dmitri Voronkov had the lone goal for the Blue Jackets, who dropped to 1-4-1 in their last six games.

Kucherov powers Lightning

Nikita Kucherov had a hat trick and set up another goal as the surging Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 6-3.

With his four points, Kucherov moved into the NHL lead with 80 points, three ahead of Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon.

Brayden Point and Brandon Hagel each had a goal and an assist to help Tampa Bay win for the sixth time in seven games.

Jamie Drysdale, Cam York and Cam Atkinson had goals for the Flyers, who dropped their third straight following a five-game winning streak.

Hill sharp in return as Knights win

Adin Hill turned away 40 shots in his return from injury and the Vegas Golden Knights held on for a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders.

Ivan Barbashev and Nicolas Roy had a goal and an assist apiece for Vegas, which has point in five straight games (4-0-1).

Hill made his first start since Dec. 17 after missing 22 of the previous 23 games with a lower-body injury.

Brock Nelson notched his 500th career point with a first-period goal and Jean-Gabriel Pageau had a short-handed tally for the Islanders, who fell to 1-1 under new coach Patrick Roy.

Charlie Coyle had a goal and an assist to back 20 saves from Jeremy Swayman as the Boston Bruins remained hot with Monday's 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets in a clash of division leaders.

Jake DeBrusk scored short-handed in the third period to help Boston to a fifth consecutive victory, while Brad Marchand and Jakub Lauko added goals for the Atlantic leaders. 

The Central-leading Jets lost for just the second time in 12 games and had a streak of 34 straight games allowing three goals or fewer halted. The run was one short of an NHL record in a single season during the expansion era, as the Minnesota Wild did so in 35 in a row from Jan.-April 2005.

After Lauko and Winnipeg's Vladislav Namestnikov traded early goals, Coyle put the Bruins back ahead by redirecting Hampus Lindholm's shot past Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck with 1:34 left in the first period. 

DeBrusk fired a loose puck by Hellebuyck with the Jets on a power play to increase the lead to 3-1 with 5:25 left to play, and Marchand sealed the win with an empty-net goal inside the final minute.

Hellebuyck stopped 17 of 20 shots for Winnipeg.

Devils' Toffoli has hat trick, overtime winner against Golden Knights

Tyler Toffoli scored with 2:25 left in overtime to cap his second hat trick of the season and give the New Jersey Devils a thrilling 6-5 comeback win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

New Jersey trailed 5-3 late in the second period before getting two unanswered goals from Toffoli and another from Curtis Lazar to halt the defending Stanley Cup champions' three-game winning streak.

Lazar also scored in the first period and Nico Hischier added a goal to help the Devils avoid a fourth loss in five games.

Jonathan Marchessault had two goals and an assist for Vegas, which also received a goal and two assists from Nicolas Roy and one goal and one assist from Chandler Stephenson.

Toffoli started New Jersey's rally by ripping a shot past Knights goaltender Logan Thompson with 15.8 seconds left in the second period. Lazar's second of the night created a 5-5 tie midway through the third, and Toffoli completed his three-goal outing by converting a feed from Luke Hughes with the Devils on a 3-on-2 rush in overtime.

Hischier and Lazar each struck in the first period after Pavel Dorofeyev gave Vegas a 1-0 lead 6:12 in. Toffoli extended the margin to 3-1 with just 1:37 elapsed in the second, but the Knights scored four times before the end of the period to move ahead.

Marchessault tied the game at 3-3 with a pair of goals 2:21 apart, and Stephenson scored just 48 seconds after Marchessault's second before Roy gave Vegas a 5-3 edge in the final minute of the period.

Thompson finished with 32 saves while Vitek Vanecek stopped 27 shots for the Devils. 

Canucks' Demko blanks Blackhawks for fifth shutout

Thatcher Demko turned aside 31 shots to record his fifth shutout of the season and lead the red-hot Vancouver Canucks to a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

The All-Star goaltender tied Arizona's Connor Ingram and Pittsburgh's Tristan Jarry for the NHL's lead in shutouts while sparking Vancouver to its third straight win. The Pacific Division-leading Canucks are now 8-0-1 over a nine-game point streak.

Vancouver got all its scoring in the opening period, as Pius Suter knocked in a feed from Andrei Kuzmenko 1:47 in and Quinn Hughes blasted a shot over the shoulder of Chicago goaltender Petr Mrazek less than five minutes later. Kuzmenko was credited with an assist on that goal as well. 

Demko stopped 10 shots in the second period and 12 more in the third to keep the Canucks' lead intact.

The Blackhawks, who had won two of their last three games, were shut out for the fifth time this season. Mrazek finished with 27 saves. 

The New York Islanders returned to their winning ways in new coach Patrick Roy's debut.

Bo Horvat scored 41 seconds into overtime and the Islanders beat the visiting Dallas Stars 3-2 on Sunday to make Roy a winner in his first game with New York.

The Hall of Fame goaltender was hired on Saturday after the team fired Lane Lambert following the conclusion of a 0-3-1 road trip.

Roy, who was 130-92-24 in three seasons coaching the Colorado Avalanche from 2013-16, and won the Jack Adams Award in 2014 as coach of the year, had spent the last five years as the coach and GM of his home-town junior team, the Quebec Ramparts.

Ilya Sorokin finished with 40 saves, while Alexander Romanov and Hudson Fasching scored regulation goals for New York (20-15-11).

Horvat's goal was his 19th of the season, giving the Islanders just their third win in 11 games (3-6-2).

The Stars (27-13-6) lost for the second time in three games after winning four of their previous five.

Dallas' Jason Robertson scored his 16th goal of the season for his team-leading 48th point, while Nils Lundqvist scored his second.

Scott Wedgewood finished with 25 saves to lose for the first time in four starts.

Matthews scores NHL-leading 38th goal to lift Maple Leafs over Kraken

Auston Matthews scored in the first period in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 3-1 win over the Seattle Kraken.

The goal was Matthews' fifth in the last four games and league-leading 38th on the season.

Matthews has five more goals than the next-closest goal-scorer, the Florida Panthers' Sam Reinhart.

Nicholas Robertson also scored for the Maple Leafs (23-14-8), while Jake McCabe added an empty-net goal with 21 second remaining.

On the other end of the ice, goaltender Ilya Samsonov was sensational, making several spectacular saves.

Samsonov stopped 16-of-17 shots to earn his first win since December 9 after going 0-2-3 with a 5.32 goals-against average in his previous five starts.

Joey Daccord made 23 saves for Seattle, while Jordan Eberle scored the team's only goal - his seventh of the season and third in the last five games.

The Kraken (19-18-9) have now lost four in a row immediately following a franchise-record nine-game winning streak.

Kaprizov's hat trick helps Wild beat Hurricanes

Kirill Kaprizov scored three goals in the Minnesota Wild's 5-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

It was the second career hat trick for Kaprizov, who was coming off a two-goal game and has 10 goals and seven assists in his last 10 contests.

Joel Eriksson Ek had the go-ahead goal midway through the third period to lead the Wild to their third win in four games after they had lost eight of their previous nine.

Kaprizov scored his final goal - his 18th of the season - into an empty net and Jake Middleton added an empty-netter just over a minute later.

Filip Gustavsson finished with 40 saves for Minnesota (20-21-5), as Martin Necas and Michael Bunting were the only two Carolina skaters to find the back of the net.

Antti Raanta stopped 14-of-17 shots for the Hurricanes (25-25-5), who lost for the second time in three games after going 7-0-1 in their previous eight.

Sam Gagner snapped a tie early in the third period with a fluke goal and Stuart Skinner made 26 saves as the Edmonton Oilers extended their winning streak to 13 games on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over the rival Calgary Flames.

Ryan McLeod opened the scoring in the first period and Zach Hyman had an empty-net goal as Edmonton set the record for longest winning streak by a Canadian team, surpassing the 1967-68 Montreal Canadiens.

The Pittsburgh Penguins hold the NHL record with a 17-game winning streak in 1992-93.

From below the goal line near the corner, Gagner attempted to center to Dylan Holloway in the slot, but it deflected off Flames defenseman Rasmus Anderson’s skate, ended up on the top of goalie Dan Vladar’s trapper and fluttered into the net.

The Oilers improved to 23-6-0 since Kris Knoblauch took over as coach.

Red-hot Canucks beat Maple Leafs

Conor Garland and Nils Hoglander each scored twice and Quinn Hughes had three assists to lead the league-leading Vancouver Canucks to a 6-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

J.T. Miller and Tyler Myers also had goals for the Canucks, who are 7-0-1 in their last eight games and lead the NHL with 66 points.

William Nylander scored twice and Mitchell Marner had a goal and an assist as the Maple Leafs dropped to 1-4-1 in their past six games.

Lightning win 5th straight

Nicholas Paul and Tyler Motte scored 52 seconds apart in the first period and Jonas Johansson stopped 27 shots against his former team as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Buffalo Sabres 5-1 for their fifth consecutive win.

Calvin de Haan had an empty-net goal and Brandon Hagel added a pair of assists for the Lightning, who won the opener of a three-game trip after the first four victories of their current streak came at home.

Dylan Cozens scored for the Sabres after missing the previous game with an upper-body injury. Buffalo failed to win a season-high third straight game after shutout wins over San Jose and Chicago.

The New York Islanders fired head coach Lane Lambert and replaced him with Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy in a surprising mid-season shake-up.

President of hockey operations and general manager Lou Lamoriello announced the moves Saturday after the Islanders lost their fourth straight game Friday night to the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks. New York have dropped six of their last seven.

Roy last coached for the Colorado Avalanche from 2013-16, winning the Jack Adams Award in 2014 as coach of the year. Over the last five years, he was the coach and GM of his home-town junior team, the Quebec Ramparts.

Lambert was midway through his second season as the Islanders’ bench boss, accumulating a 61-46-20 record and leading the team to a play-off appearance last season.

Despite an eight-game point streak in December, this year’s squad has been unable to keep pace in the East, and their recent swoon has dropped them out of a play-off slot.

Lambert is the fifth NHL coach fired since the start of this season, joining the Oilers’ Jay Woodcroft, Wild’s Dean Evason, Blues’ Craig Berube and Senators’ D.J. Smith.

Roy played in goal for 19 NHL seasons and is third on the all-time wins list. He won four Stanley Cups as a player.

Kirill Kaprizov scored two of the Wild’s franchise record-tying five power-play goals and Ryan Hartman also tallied twice to lead Minnesota to a 6-4 win on Friday over the Florida Panthers.

Joel Eriksson Ek and Mats Zuccarello also scored on the power play and Brock Faber had three assists for the Wild, who have won two of three following a four-game skid.

The Wild had five power-play goals for the fourth time and first since Nov. 29, 2008, against Nashville.

Minnesota’s Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 10 of 11 shots before leaving with an injury midway through the second period. Filip Gustavsson finished with 21 saves for the win.

Sergei Bobrovsky was pulled at the same time Fleury left, allowing four goals on 15 shots.

Florida lost its fourth straight after a nine-game winning streak.

Svechnikov lifts Hurricanes over Red Wings

Andrei Svechnikov scored on the Hurricanes’ only power play of the game in the third period and Carolina allowed just 12 shots in a 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Jordan Martinook and Martin Necas also scored and Sebastian Aho tallied into an empty net as the Hurricanes won for the eighth time in 10 games (8-1-1).

Antti Raanta needed to make only 10 saves as Carolina held a 14-4 shots advantage in the third period and 30-12 overall.

Devils score 4 in 2nd period in win

Alexander Holtz, Nico Hischier and Nathan Bastian scored 6:03 apart during a four-goal second period and the New Jersey Devils defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-1.

New Jersey’s other goal came from John Marino and Vitek Vaneck stopped 28 shots as it moved two points behind Tampa Bay and Detroit for the two wild card spots in the Eastern Conference.

Cole Sillinger scored for the Blue Jackets, who have lost four of five and haven’t won consecutive games since Nov. 22 and 24.

Edmonton tied the longest winning streak by a Canadian team set by the 1967-68 Montreal Canadiens.

Stuart Skinner made 25 saves as the Oilers tied the franchise record with their 10th straight game allowing two or fewer goals.

Eeli Tolvanen and Jared McCann had goals for the Kraken, who have lost three in a row following a franchise-record nine-game winning streak.

Flyers roll to fifth straight win

Owen Tippett scored a highlight-reel goal for one of his two scores and Scott Laughton converted a penalty shot to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to their fifth straight victory, 5-1 over the Dallas Stars.

Sean Walker and Cam Atkinson also scored for the Flyers, who outshot the Stars 43-16 to snap a seven-game losing streak in the series.

Tippett closed the scoring with 5:30 remaining when he spun past defenseman Joel Hanley before whipping a backhander past Jake Oettinger’s glove side for a dazzling goal.

Tyler Seguin had the goal for Dallas, which had won four of five.

Pastrnak has hat trick in Bruins’ win

David Pastrnak scored in the game’s first minute and added two insurance goals late in the third period as the surging Boston Bruins handed the Colorado Avalanche a 5-2 loss.

Jake DeBrusk and Jakub Lauko also had goals to help the Bruins win their third straight as part of an 8-1-3 stretch.

Nathan MacKinnon and Miles Wood scored for the Avalanche, who have split the first four contests of a five-game road trip.

Colorado defenseman Cale Makar had one assist but fell a point shy of tying Hall of Famer Bobby Orr as the fastest defenseman to collect 300 career points. Orr did it in his 279th career game on Dec. 13, 1970. This was Makar’s 279th career game.

Dylan Larkin scored a power-play goal 69 seconds into overtime and the Detroit Red Wings remained hot with a 3-2 win on Wednesday over the Florida Panthers.

Michael Rasmussen scored one goal and set up another by Robby Fabbri as Detroit improved to 6-0-1 in its last seven games.

The Red Wings snapped a 10-game losing streak in the series against the Panthers, having gone 0-8-2 since a 2-1 win on Feb. 20, 2021.

Sam Reinhart scored short-handed - his 33rd goal to put him one behind Toronto’s Auston Matthews for the NHL lead – and Gustav Forsling also tallied for the Panthers, who have lost three straight (0-1-2) following a nine-game winning streak.

Reinhart matched his career high in goals and extended his NHL-record streak of games with a goal on special teams to eight. It also broke Pavel Bure’s 2000-01 record for the longest goal streak in franchise history (seven games) and was his 500th career point.

Canadiens edge Devils on late goal

Cole Caufield snapped a tie with 4:31 remaining in the third period to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

Luke Hughes and Alexander Holtz scored in a 52-second span early in the third period to give the Devils a 2-2 tie before Caufield’s team-leading 14th goal proved to be the winner.

Juraj Slafkovsky and Joshua Roy also scored and Sam Montembault stopped 28 shots as Montreal won its second straight.

New Jersey dropped its second in a row and is 1-3-1 in its last five games.

Ryan McLeod snapped a tie with 3:05 left in the third period and the Edmonton Oilers rallied for their franchise-record 11th straight win Tuesday, 4-2 over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Goals by Auston Matthews – his league-leading 34th - and Morgan Rielly gave the Maple Leafs a 2-0 lead before Leon Draisaitl got Edmonton on the board with 4:09 remaining in the second period.

Derek Ryan scored the equaliser early in the final period before McLeod whipped a close wrist shot past Martin Jones to give the Oilers their first lead of the night.

Evan Bouchard added an empty-net goal and Edmonton improved to 19-3-0 in its last 22 games.

Toronto has lost a season high-tying four in a row (0-3-1)

Connor scores in return as Jets rebound

Kyle Connor scored an empty-net goal after a 16-game absence and Mason Appleton ended a 25-game scoring drought to lift the Winnipeg Jets to a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders.

Gabriel Vilardi and Neil Pionk also scored and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 35 shots for the Jets, who bounced back after their eight-game winning streak and 14-game point run was halted with Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Philadelphia.

Winnipeg tied Vancouver with 62 points for the league lead.

Anders Lee had both goals as the Islanders dropped to 1-5-0 in their last six games.

Avalanche score 4 in 3rd period to beat Senators

Mikko Rantanen scored twice and the Colorado Avalanche tallied four unanswered goals in the third period in a 7-4 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Ottawa took a 4-3 lead into the third period, but Miles Wood scored 4:04 into the frame and Sam Malinski’s power-play goal 4:10 later put Colorado ahead for good.

Samuel Girard had three assists and Devon Toews added a goal and an assist as the Avalanche improved to 10-2-1 in their last 13 games.

Ridly Greig scored a pair of goals for Ottawa, which has dropped six of seven.

Marc-Andre Fleury took sole possession of second place on the NHL's all-time wins list for a goaltender by posting a 21-save shutout and leading the Minnesota Wild to a 5-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Monday.

Fleury broke a tie with Hall of Famer Patrick Roy with his 552nd career victory, and did so in style with his 74th career shutout and the 39-year-old's first this season.

Joel Eriksson Ek scored both short-handed and on a power play to help Fleury achieve the feat and end a four-game losing streak for Minnesota. Mats Zuccarello and Marcus Foligno contributed a goal and an assist each. 

The Wild took control early by forcing an Islanders' penalty just over a minute in, and Zuccarello scored on the resulting power play for a quick 1-0 lead.

Connor Dewar scored off a New York turnover 2:18 into the second to extend Minnesota's advantage, and Eriksson Ek got his first of the night with the Wild on a 5-on-4 later in the period to increase the margin to 3-0.

Eriksson's short-handed goal came with 3:51 remaining and Foligno completed the rout by tipping in a pass from Frederick Gaudreau in the final minute.

Fleury needed to make just three saves during the Wild's dominant second period before recording eight more in the third to finish off his historic shutout.

The Islanders were dealt a fourth loss in five games and pulled star goaltender Ilya Sorokin following the second intermission after he allowed three goals on 32 shots.

Crosby, Jarry star as Penguins end Kraken's nine-game winning streak

Sidney Crosby scored two goals to support a 22-save shutout from Tristan Jarry as the Pittsburgh Penguins stopped the Seattle Kraken’s franchise-record nine-game winning streak with a 3-0 victory.

Drew O’Connor added a goal and Rickard Rakell finished with two assists to help Pittsburgh bounce back from overtime defeats in its previous two games and hand the Kraken their first loss since Dec. 18.

Seattle also had a 13-game point streak (11-0-2) halted despite a solid effort from goaltender Joey Daccord, who turned aside 30 of 32 shots.

Daccord made 12 saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless, but the Penguins broke through just 49 seconds into the second when O’Connor converted a backhand feed from Bryan Rust.

Crosby made it a 2-0 lead just 2:43 later before capping his two-goal day with an empty-net strike with 2:21 left to play.

Jarry’s shutout was his fifth of the season, tied with the Arizona Coyotes’ Connor Ingram for tops in the NHL.

Kings snap eight-game skid behind big third period

Trevor Moore had two goals and the Los Angeles Kings scored four times in the third period to come through with a 5-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes and end an eight-game losing streak.

Moore, Phillip Danault, Alex Laferriere and Pierre Luc-Dubois all had goals in the final 19 minutes to send the Kings to their first victory of 2024. Los Angeles had gone 0-4-4 since its most recent victory on Dec. 27.

The Hurricanes, meanwhile, had gone 7-0-1 over their previous eight games.

Danault added two assists and David Rittich recorded 30 saves for the Kings, who struck three times in the first 5:20 of the third to break a 1-1 deadlock after two periods.

Danault put Los Angeles ahead by knocking in the carom of teammate Vladislav Garikov’s off-target shot 61 seconds into the third. Laferriere sent a wrist shot past Carolina goaltender Antti Raanta just 1:20 later to extend the lead, and Dubois’ one-timer with 14:40 remaining increased the margin to 4-1.

The Hurricanes got closer on Jack Drury’s goal with 11:02 left to play, but failed to close the gap further before Moore put the game away with a short-handed empty-net tally with 1:16 remaining.

Moore scored the game’s lone goal of the first period before Jordan Martinook answered for Carolina 5:38 into the second to extend his goal streak to three games.

Raanta stopped just 20 of 24 shots before being pulled after allowing Dubois’ goal.
