The 7-2 bet Disability Charm delivered a commanding win in the Jamaica 1000 Guineas at Caymanas Park on Saturday providing a first win in this Fillies Classic for jockey Robert Halledeen and trainer Patrick Lynch.

The Fisherman Stables-owned horse quickly recovered from a slow start in the JA$3.5 Million (US$28,000) event and won by a length and three-quarters, clocking one minute 41.20 seconds for the one-mile trip. The 13-1 bet Lici’s Pepsi was second and the 2-1 favourite Honey Ryda third.

In posting her third win in four career starts, Disability Charm has now sent her stocks soaring for the Jamaica Oaks on May 5.

“I still have not pushed her yet to give her best and I think you will see a lot more in the Oaks,” trainer Lynch told SportsMax.TV.

The 32-1 bet Sergeant Reckless made the early fractions with Honey Ryda chasing but as they left the backstretch Halledeen was already on the leaders’ heels preparing to pounce.

In contrast to his Thornbird Stakes win in March when he collared the leaders close to the finish, Disability Charm was already in front by two lengths coming off the final turn.

Honey Ryda threatened briefly heading to the eighth pole and Lici’s Pepsi challenged mildly with a wide run but Disability Charm accelerated from her rivals.

Halledeen completely eased his mount close to the finish after the filly sharply darted to her right apparently shying away from her rider’s vigorous left-hand whipping.

Disability Charm did not race as a two-year-old and after winning a maiden event on January 20, narrowly lost the six-furlong Hot Line Stakes on February 24, before reeling off wins in the Thornbird Stakes and now the Fillies Guineas.
