Coronavirus: David Beckham offers five-a-side game to raise funds - and Tom Brady is keen!

By Sports Desk April 22, 2020

David Beckham has offered fans the chance to play against him in a five-a-side game as he raises funds for coronavirus relief efforts.

The ex-England captain revealed the opportunity in a video on Instagram, explaining how the winner of the sweepstake - organised as part of the All In Challenge - will get a "unique experience" at Inter Miami.

Along with four friends, the lucky individual will face Beckham's squad at the training facilities of the MLS franchise part-owned by the 44-year-old. The prize also includes lunch and the chance to watch Inter Miami in action at the club's new stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

"With my Inter Miami family, I want to offer you the chance to win a unique experience," Beckham said in the post.

"You and four of your friends will play against my five-a-side team at the beautiful new Inter Miami training facility.

"After the game, we will have lunch together - to gloat who has won and who has lost - and you will then be invited to watch an Inter Miami game from the owners' suite with me and my good friend and managing owner, Jorge Mas.

"You'll get a VIP tour of our stadium to see the amazing facilities we've built for our new club. Miami is a very special place and I know this will be an incredible experience."

There was a notable response to the post by the former Manchester United, Milan and Real Madrid midfielder, too.

NFL quarterback Tom Brady made it clear he wants to go up against Beckham in a different type of football, commenting: "I'm bidding on that."

However, the six-time Super Bowl champion will have to buy a ticket to see if he can be the lucky one picked out to face his fellow sporting superstar, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to Feeding America, Meals On Wheels, World Central Kitchen and No Kid Hungry.

Baltimore Ravens defensive end Calais Campbell said Patrick Mahomes showed just why he was worth so much during the Kansas City Chiefs' win.

Mahomes threw four touchdown passes and rushed in for another as the Chiefs beat the Ravens 34-20 in a blockbuster NFL clash on Monday.

The 25-year-old signed a 10-year, $503million contract extension earlier this year and Campbell said Mahomes showed why he got that deal.

"They don't give that guy half a billion dollars for no reason," Campbell told reporters.

"He's an incredible talent, he just made play after play. I know who we are and what we're capable of and he was able to go out there and do some great things against us so you've got to take your hat off to him and give him some respect.

"I'm looking forward to earning the right to try and face them again because I'm very confident if we play the game we're supposed to we can hang with those guys."

The Ravens had no answers as Mahomes dominated, with Lamar Jackson finishing with just 97 passing yards and 83 rushing.

But Campbell backed the Ravens to bounce back after their first loss of the NFL season.

"We prepared for it, we just didn't execute," he said.

"You've got to take your hat off to them, they played a great football game, we tried to make a run late and we just didn't have enough to get it done. This team, we'll be just fine."

Mikel Arteta expects a busy finish to the transfer window, but the Arsenal manager had no update regarding Houssem Aouar.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Lyon star Aouar ahead of the transfer window closing on October 5.

Asked about Aouar after a 3-1 Premier League loss to Liverpool on Monday, Arteta had no update, but he predicted a frantic finish to the transfer period.

"We don't have any news on new players and either with players that might leave the football club," he told a news conference.

"It's a week to go, I think it's going to be really busy for other clubs because not much business has been done.

    "Let's see what happens."

Arteta added: "I think it will be busy for the Premier League. Busy for us, I don't know how it is going to happen."

Arsenal's loss to Liverpool was their first of the Premier League season and they sit fifth in the table.
