Tuchel has no interest in swapping PSG for Bayern

By Sports Desk November 05, 2019

Thomas Tuchel has no interest in leaving Paris Saint-Germain to replace Niko Kovac as head coach at Bayern Munich.

Kovac was sacked by Bayern in the wake of a 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday – their heaviest Bundesliga loss since April 2009.

Hansi Flick has taken over on an interim basis, with Jose Mourinho, Massimiliano Allegri, Erik ten Hag and Ralf Rangnick all linked to the permanent post.

Sky Deutschland reported Bayern had made contact with Tuchel about taking the role, before L'Equipe claimed later on Tuesday that he had turn down their advances.

Asked about the rumours at a news conference to preview PSG's Champions League clash with Club Brugge, Tuchel said: "It doesn't interest me because I am the PSG coach right now.

"I have a contract for this season and last time I checked I have seen that I have a contract for the next season as well. I can't think of another club for one minute."

PSG claimed a 5-0 win in the previous meeting of the teams two weeks ago and will advance to the last 16 of the Champions League if they beat the Belgian side again on Wednesday.

Asked if the match at the Parc des Princes was like a final due to progression being within reach, Tuchel replied: "I don't think so. It's just a consequence of our performance.

"We had problems against Brugge with a very high press. They were aggressive and played very high. We needed time to adapt.

"In the end it was a deserved victory with five goals, but it was complicated for a long time. We have prepared tactically to be ready for every situation. If we are able to do that well, to show our mentality, we can win and the consequence is we will qualify.

"But we can only control our performance. Brugge are not always very structured, sometimes their game is a bit crazy and you have to play with precision and calm."

PSG head into the game following a shock 2-1 reverse at Dijon in Ligue 1 on Friday and Tuchel opted to take his time before going over the result with his team.

"It was necessary to take two days and then talk with the players about our tactics, the mentality, the way we started," he added.

"We hate to lose, we are not used to losing. We are competitors but we are also a team that can lose on a Friday night against Dijon.

"It was necessary to talk about it again and to criticise it. It's the responsibility of myself and the players."

Nantes have revealed a one-off Argentina-inspired kit they will wear in Sunday's Ligue 1 meeting with Bordeaux in memory of former striker Emiliano Sala.

Sala, along with pilot David Ibbotson, went missing on January 21 last year when their plane crashed over the English Channel a few days after his move to Cardiff City from Nantes had been confirmed.

The body of Argentina native Sala was later discovered and a report released by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) in August said he had clearly been exposed to the poisonous gas carbon monoxide. Ibbotson has not been found.

Nantes marked the anniversary of the incident by confirming the creation of a special strip in tribute to their former striker, with the kit set to be worn on Sunday against Bordeaux, Sala's first club in France.

Combattant et généreux, tu rêvais et méritais le maillot de l'Albiceleste. L’intégralité des bénéfices liés aux ventes de ce maillot sera allouée aux deux clubs formateurs argentins d’Emiliano.

Profits from the jerseys will be donated to the two Argentinian clubs Sala played for as a child, Nantes said.

A statement read: "Because he dreamed of wearing the jersey of the Argentina national team, the players of Nantes will give up their traditional yellow and green jersey for a blue and white kit.

"This jersey, from which the entire sales profits will be allocated to the two Argentinian training clubs of Emiliano, is a way of paying homage to him."

Nantes also announced several other tributes to Sala will take place on Sunday, including a minute's applause and a "giant tifo".

  • Cavani? PSG can send Mbappe to Tottenham, jokes Mourinho Cavani? PSG can send Mbappe to Tottenham, jokes Mourinho

Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho was unwilling to discuss links to Edinson Cavani but joked his "friends" at Paris Saint-Germain could send him Kylian Mbappe on loan.

Cavani's contract expires at the end of the season and the striker has informed PSG sporting director Leonardo of his desire to leave the Parc des Princes.

The Uruguay international is the club's all-time leading goalscorer but has struggled with injuries in 2019-20 and fallen out of favour since the arrival of Mauro Icardi.

Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have all been credited with an interest in Cavani, but the Spurs boss refrained from fuelling the reports at a news conference ahead of their game against Norwich City on Wednesday.

However, Mourinho playfully suggested he would be more than happy to bolster his squad with Cavani's PSG team-mate Mbappe.

"I have a very good relationship with Mr Nasser [Al-Khelaifi, PSG president] and Mr Leonardo and I want to keep that great relationship," said Mourinho.

"Good relationships are based on respect and I'm not going to speak about a player from Paris Saint-Germain.

"Unless you want a joke and if they are my friends, they could send Mbappe on loan? More than that, I have nothing else to say."

World Cup winner Mbappe has scored 21 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions for PSG this season.

Gareth Bale has returned to the Real Madrid squad for the Copa del Rey trip to Unionistas de Salamanca on Wednesday.

The Wales forward has not featured since the 3-0 LaLiga victory at Getafe on January 4, missing Madrid's Supercopa de Espana triumph in Jeddah and the 2-1 league win over Sevilla last week.

Bale has been brought back for the cup clash, along with James Rodriguez, while Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Rodrygo Goes have been given a rest and captain Sergio Ramos is still missing following an ankle problem.

Head coach Zinedine Zidane has also left out Alvaro Odriozola and Mariano Diaz, who are expected to leave during the transfer window.

Odriozola has emerged as a loan target for Bayern Munich and is reportedly travelling to Germany to finalise a deal.

Mariano, meanwhile, has been linked with Benfica and former club Lyon.
