Man United defender Dalot completes hip treatment in China

By Sports Desk September 09, 2019

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has finished a 10-day injury treatment programme at Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG.

The Portuguese full-back arrived in Shanghai on August 29 to undergo rehabilitation on a hip problem with physiotherapist Eduardo Santos, SIPG confirmed.

Santos gained prominence in 2015 for his work with David Luiz, then of Paris Saint-Germain, and now heads up SIPG's medical department.

Dalot has not featured in a competitive match for United this season but a statement on the CSL side's website described his rehabilitation as being "successfully" completed.

"Although it is a long journey, it is worthwhile for me," Dalot was quoted as saying.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last month suggested the 20-year-old would be ready to return after the international break, potentially putting him in the frame for Saturday's Premier League match against Leicester City.

Leeds United have signed striker Jean-Kevin Augustin on an initial loan from RB Leipzig.

The 22-year-old joins until the end of the season, when the Championship club will have the option to make the move permanent.

Augustin, who had been on loan with Ligue 1 side Monaco, is Leeds' third signing of the transfer window following the arrivals of Elia Caprile and Ian Poveda.

A Paris Saint-Germain youth product, Augustin was top scorer and named the tournament's best player at the European Under-19 Championship in 2016.

He moved to Leipzig for a reported €13million in July 2017 and scored nine goals in 25 appearances in his first season in the Bundesliga.

Augustin started just four league matches in 2018-19, however, and scored only once in 13 outings for Monaco this term.

Augustin will effectively replace Eddie Nketiah in the Leeds squad after the Arsenal forward returned to the Gunners.

Leeds are second in the Championship ahead of Tuesday's clash with Millwall at Elland Road.

  • Eriksen arrives in Milan ahead of Inter move Eriksen arrives in Milan ahead of Inter move

Christian Eriksen has arrived in Milan ahead of an expected transfer to Inter from Tottenham.

The Denmark international touched down on Monday and is due to undergo a medical with the Nerazzurri.

Inter are expected to pay a €20million fee for the 27-year-old, whose Spurs contract runs out at the end of the 2019-20 season.

Eriksen will reportedly sign a contract until June 2024 that could be worth €380,000 per week including add-ons.

His future has been one of the sagas of the transfer window, with Inter initially unable to agree a deal with Spurs despite the risk of Eriksen leaving for free at the end of the season.

Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho admitted after the 1-1 FA Cup draw with Southampton on Saturday that the protracted nature of the talks had left him frustrated.

"It is not Tottenham's fault that on the 25th of January we are in the situation," he said.

"The only thing I can say is Eriksen, since I arrived, he is behaving in a very, very professional way, with me and the team.

"Tottenham is the last one to blame for this situation, but to be on the 25th of January in a situation like this is not nice."

Spurs also confirmed on Monday that Brandon Austin is to join Viborg on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper, who signed a new Spurs deal running to 2022 in December, will move to Denmark subject to international clearance.

  • Tuchel hails 'exceptional' Neymar after match-winning display at Lille Tuchel hails 'exceptional' Neymar after match-winning display at Lille

Thomas Tuchel hailed Neymar as an "exceptional" player after the Brazil star led Paris Saint-Germain to a 2-0 Ligue 1 win at Lille.

The forward made it 13 goals in as many league games this season as he struck in each half at Stade Pierre-Mauroy for the champions.

With nine goals in his past seven league appearances helping PSG to a 10-point lead at the top of the table, Neymar's spectacular form has won the admiration of his head coach.

"He has an incredible ability to accelerate and dribble. He was exceptional at times," Tuchel said on Sunday.

"He's been playing at this level for weeks and has offered us games of this calibre every three days.

"He's a boy who is capable of simple things and then exceptional things in the next minute. I'm happy for him as this will give him a lot of confidence."

Tuchel was happy with the way PSG largely nullified the threat of a Lille side whose previous home defeat in the top flight was back in March last year.

"We had a lot of the ball in the first period and a bit less in the second, when our counter-attacks weren't all successful. We lost easy balls sometimes," Tuchel said.

"It was still a good game overall that we managed to control. It wasn't that obvious that we faced a very strong opposing team, unbeaten at home, with a very strong coach and a really good atmosphere."

Thiago Silva was replaced at half-time, but Tuchel stressed the change was a precaution as the centre-back had felt some discomfort.

However, the decision to take off left-back Abdou Diallo with 14 minutes remaining was down to concern about his use of the ball.

"Thiago tried to play through with some pubis pain, but it wasn't very comfortable for him," Tuchel explained. "That's why we took him off at half-time. But I don't think it's too serious.

"As for Diallo, he lost the ball three times and that was pretty dangerous. It was better for him to go off."
