Ronaldo: Manchester United did nothing to win the game

Cristiano Ronaldo says Manchester United "did nothing to win the game" after two late goals handed the English side a dramatic 2-1 Champions League victory on Wednesday.

The Portuguese superstar opened the scoring against his old side with a stunning volley after 65 minutes, but substitute Juan Mata equalised with a fine free-kick in the 86th, and an Alex Sandro own goal three minutes later gave United an unlikely win.

Ronaldo was not impressed with United's approach, however, and believes Juve should have put the game well beyond their reach before those late goals.

"We dominated the game for 90 minutes, had so many chances, could've killed it off three or four times, but we relaxed and were punished," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"Manchester United did nothing to win the game. You can't even talk about luck, because you have to find your own luck and in this case we just gifted it to them.

"Now we've got to lift our heads, as we played really well and are still top of the group."

Juventus are top of Group H on nine points, two ahead of second-placed United.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has signed a new contract at Old Trafford running until June 2023, the Premier League club have confirmed.

McTominay was one of few young players to make a breakthrough at United under Jose Mourinho, managing to play 13 times in the Premier League last season despite reservations about his ability from many supporters.

Mourinho was a staunch backer of McTominay, lauding him as a "special kid" after the 3-1 defeat at West Ham in September.

However, that was one of just seven appearances in the league this term, six of which were for the Portuguese, with injuries disrupting his campaign.

The Scotland international has played in midfield and at the back in his short career, and caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer applauded his desire to learn and progress.

"Scott has been with the club from a very young age," Solskjaer told the club's official website. "He has progressed through our academy ranks and has made fantastic progress in the last couple of years.

"Scott is a young midfielder and is constantly improving. He's an intelligent player and wants to learn all the time.

"I am delighted he has signed a new contract and there is no doubt that he has a bright future ahead of him."
