Llorente hints at LaLiga return

By Sports Desk November 07, 2018

Fernando Llorente has opened the door for a return to LaLiga as he continues to struggle for first-team opportunities at Tottenham.

Llorente has only had one season in his homeland since 2013, the 33-year-old having played in Italy with Juventus, before time with Swansea City and now Spurs.

The striker has only started 11 matches in all competitions for Tottenham since his move in 2017, Llorente finding himself playing second fiddle to Harry Kane in Mauricio Pochettino's plans.

And with his current deal set to expire in June, Llorente has hinted a return to Spain would be his preferred option.

Speaking to reporters after Tottenham's 2-1 Champions League win over PSV, he said: "I've been away from home for many years, I'd love to go back to LaLiga."

Llorente came on against PSV to help Spurs come from a goal down to earn a crucial victory, setting up Kane for Tottenham's equaliser with a well-placed header.

And he hopes his performance can be the start of more game time under Pochettino as Spurs challenge on four fronts.

"I came on and things went well, so I'm happy to have helped the team," he added.

"I hope I continue to have opportunities, it's important for me because it gives me the confidence to keep working, it's not easy when you do not play because mentally you have to be very strong to continue training hard."

Cardiff City have sealed the loan signing of Oumar Niasse from Everton.

The striker has made five substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and last scored for the Toffees in May 2018.

Niasse arrives to boost Cardiff's battle against relegation, with Neil Warnock's side a point and a place above the bottom three.

"I'm really pleased to be at Cardiff City," the Senegal striker told the club's website after joining on a deal to the end of the season.

"Having heard about the manager from other players and met him earlier today, I knew this was the right move for me.

"Other clubs were interested, but I was convinced that this was where I wanted to come."

Cardiff are also being linked with a club-record move for Nantes striker Emiliano Sala.

  • Hendrick credited with Fulham strike Hendrick credited with Fulham strike

Jeff Hendrick has been credited with scoring Burnley's first goal in their 2-1 win against Premier League strugglers Fulham last weekend.

Burnley triumphed 2-1 at Turf Moor thanks to own goals from defenders Joe Bryan and Denis Odoi after Andre Schurrle's stunning opener.

But the Clarets had failed to record a shot on target during the game before an appeal changed Bryan's own goal into a Hendrick strike on Friday.

The Republic of Ireland international, playing in an unfamiliar wide midfield role, was involved in both goals as Burnley came from behind.

Hendrick's powerful drive deflected in off Bryan for the equaliser, with replays appearing to show his shot was creeping in at the back post.

And Hendrick soon created what proved the winner for the Clarets when his cross was nodded into his own goal by the hapless Odoi.

Victory was Burnley's third consecutive win in the Premier League as Sean Dyche's side move away from the relegation zone.

They are next in action away to Dyche's former club Watford on Saturday.

Levante have reported Barcelona to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) over the alleged fielding of an ineligible player in the first leg of their Copa del Rey last-16 tie.

The Valencia-based club beat Barca 2-1 at home in the first part of their two-legged clash, as Ernesto Valverde shuffled his pack, giving games to fringe players and youngsters.

Among the unfamiliar names in the starting XI was defender Chumi, who Levante believed to have been suspended for the match after accumulating five yellow cards for Barca's 'B' team in the third tier.

A statement on their official Twitter account read: "Levante have presented this morning [Friday] the complaint to the RFEF about the improper alignment of a Barcelona player in the first leg of the last-16 match of the Copa del Rey."

Barca are convinced Chumi was eligible, with Valverde suggesting the defender's suspension was active for Sunday's win over Eibar, while the club understand a rule change in November allows a reserve player to feature for the first team in another competition as long as the suspension is less than a two-match ban.

Barca won 3-0 on Thursday to book their passage to the quarter-finals, but Levante are adamant the Catalan club should be kicked out of the competition and have reported them to RFEF.
