St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, has come out in support of Cricket West Indies (CWI) presidential candidates Ricky Skerritt and Dr Kishore Shallow.

Skerritt, a former Windies Cricket team manager and Shallow will challenge incumbent president Dave Cameron and vice president Emmanuel Nanthan for the posts later this month.

While bemoaning the fact that he will have no say in which way the matter will be decided, Gonsalves clearly has a preference as he labelled the challenging duo “modern Caribbean personalities”.

“We are seeing two very good candidates in Mr Ricky Skerritt and Dr Kishore Shallow. Both of them are much steeped in cricket historically, they are concerned about the finances in cricket, cricket development, have a very good approach to people, engaging, listen, and want to be on good terms with all the governments and fans,” Gonsalves told CMC Sports.

“They have very progressive ideas on how West Indies cricket should move forward in the plan they have put out. These are serious people — modern Caribbean personalities, steeped within our Caribbean civilization,” he added.

Skerritt and Shallow have promised to improve transparency in CWI and place a renewed focus on cricket at the grassroots level, the modernisation of coaching education, and enhancement of the current franchise system.
