An unbeaten ton from skipper Shamarh Brooks led Windies A to 301 for 9 against India A on the opening day of the second unofficial Test at Taunton on Tuesday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat the Windies were off to solid start as openers John Campbell and Devon Thomas put 49 runs on the board.  Following Thomas’ dismissal at the hands of spinner Hanuma Vihari and the settled Campbell going just five overs later for 41 the Windies were in need of a steadying hand.  It was the skipper Brooks who provided it.

The right-handed batsmen stroked a patient 121 off 224 balls, with a total of 15 boundaries, holding together a Windies innings which constantly threatened to fall apart due to the steady procession of falling wickets at the other end.

At the close of play, Oshane Thomas (2) was the other not out batsman at the crease and the team just crept over the 300 mark.  India pace bowler Mohammed Siraj and Shabaz Nadeem did the majority of the damage with the ball after claiming three wickets apiece.
