'We all make mistakes' - Sammy has no issue welcoming Smith for Global T20 Canada

Former Windies T20 skipper Darren Sammy insists there will be no hesitation in welcoming under-fire Australian captain Steve Smith to the Toronto Nationals ahead of the Global T20 Canada league next month.

Smith received a one-year ban in wake of the ball-tampering scandal that rocked the sport last month.  The Australian received a 12-month ban from national and state teams but is allowed to participate in domestic competitions outside of the country.  Smith and his vice-captain David Warner were banned after conspiring to scrape the ball with sandpaper during the third Test against South Africa.

"We all have done our fair share of mistakes in life, not just sports but in general," Sammy said of the situation.

"Obviously Steve Smith is an amazing cricketer, someone who I would have on my team any day,” he added.

"I am just happy to have a player of such calibre on my team. He has dealt with his punishment for what happened in South Africa.  All I want is his experience as a leader, his experience as a T20 player and his performances on the field that could help Toronto Nationals be a force to be reckoned with.”
