Dr Warren Blake, President of the Jamaica Athletic Administrative Association (JAAA) is optimistic that Briana Williams could be exonerated after testing positive for the diuretic at the Jamaican national championships in June.

Several Jamaican Olympians were presented with Olympic pins during a special dinner held in their honour at the Alhambra Inn in Kingston, Jamaica on Tuesday, June 18.

Organizers of the Jamaica International Invitational Meet (JIIM) said on Monday, insufficient funding and not wanting to stage a ‘watered down’ prompted the decision to cancel the 2019 edition of the meet that was set for this May-4 weekend.

Jamaica’s athletic bosses have written to the head of the Local Organising Committee in Qatar, hoping they can provide their athletes with a suitable training site in the weeks leading up to the IAAF World Championships set for Doha in September.

There has been strong interest from Jamaica’s elite athletes in competing at the 2019 World Relays set for Yokohama, Japan on May 12 and 13.

President of the Jamaica Athletic Administrative Association Dr. Warren Blake said the dates set for the national championships will not be changed as it serves the best interests of the majority of Jamaica’s athletes.

The Jamaica Athletic Administrative Association (JAAA) is planning to host more All Comers meets and have a camp somewhere in the Middle East in September as it confronts anticipated challenges associated with the World Championships in Qatar in 2019.

Regional track and field bosses seem to be fully behind the new IAAF rules that have clamped down on the ease with which athletes are able to transfer their allegiance to another country.
