Jamaica’s rising sprinter Christopher Taylor will be granted a bye in the junior 200m that will allow him to compete with the seniors over the 400m at the JAAA/Supreme Ventures National Junior and Senior Championships set for the National Stadium in Kingston from June 21-24.

Taylor, 18, who recently set a personal best 45.24s in the 400m is aiming to represent the country at the World Under-20 Championships set for July 19-24 in Tampere, Finland. The announcement was made at the launch of the championships at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston on Tuesday.

Among the seniors, double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson and 2018 Commonwealth Games champion Janieve Russell have also confirmed their participation in the championships that will also help select junior and senior teams to the Youth Olympics to be held in Argentina in October, the Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia, NACAC Championships in Toronto, Canada and the inaugural Athletics World Cup in London, England.

According to JAAA board member Ludlow Watts, 111 senior athletes and 83 junior athletes have already been confirmed for the championships that will see Supreme Ventures return to its role as primary sponsor and new sponsors the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Jamaica (ACEJ).

“SVL is here to confirm that the love is alive and the relationship is well. Most of you will be aware that last year the company took some time off the track to focus on our track at Caymanas and now we are happy to report that things are back on track with the JAAAs,” said Simone Clarke-Cooper, the Assistant Vice President, Group Corporate Communications at Supreme Ventures who are sponsoring the championship to the tune of US$80,000.00.

Between 450 and 500 athletes are expected to compete at the championships and the deadline for entries is Sunday, June 17.
