Michael Ricketts, President of the Jamaica Football Federation believes his women's football team will give a good account of itself and is hopeful the players will return with a medal from the CAC Games set for July 19 to August 3 in Colombia.

Ricketts made the bold pronouncement at a press conference on Monday to announce the 183-member team that will represent the country at the Games in 17 disciplines.

The team will be comprised of local and overseas-based players who are expected to arrive on the island later this week before the team departs for Colombia.

“I am hopeful and optimistic. I do believe we have a pretty decent unit and it is a mix of some of our young players with some of our senior girls. We also want to use it as part of our preparations for the World Cup qualifiers and the next stage will be held here in Jamaica,” the JFF President said, while thanking the Jamaican government and sports minister Olivia Grange for allowing the federation to use the national stadium free of cost to host the World Cup qualifiers that begin at the end of August.

He said he believes Jamaica has a good chance of qualifying for the World Cup and the CAC Games would be a more than adequate testing ground for the team.

“I think we have a pretty decent unit and I am hoping they will represent Jamaica, the Jamaica Olympic Association and the Jamaica Football Federation with some level of distinction.”
