The Reggae Boyz 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup campaign came to an emphatic end after a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Panama in their final Group C game at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas on Tuesday.
It didn’t take Panama long to open the scoring as a left-footed strike from Ismael Diaz from just outside the box rolled past Andre Blake after deflecting off Leon Bailey just four minutes into the contest.
Diaz made it 2-0 with another left-footed effort in the 17th minute, this time from inside the box after a good piece of skill to evade Richard King.
The Jamaicans got one back 10 minutes later when Amari’i Bell latched on to a Dexter Lembikisa cross to head home past Panam goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera.
The score remained until the 41st minute when Panama got a golden opportunity to add to their lead after Kasey Palmer gave away a penalty with a foul on Azarias Londono.
Diaz easily converted the penalty to complete a first half hat trick.
Jamaica almost got their second in first half stoppage time but Mosquera was on point to save a Kasey Palmer strike that was headed straight for the bottom corner of the net.
The first 30 minutes of the second half were largely uneventful before substitute Kaheim Dixon hit the inside of the post and almost made it 3-2.
Five minutes later, Thomas Rodriguez almost made it four for Panama but he placed his shot just wide of Blake’s near post.
He made up for that miss in the 88th minute, capitalizing off an error from Palmer to put the ball around Blake and into the net to seal the 4-1 win for Panama.
Panama will now move to the quarterfinals after three wins in as many games for a perfect nine points in the group stage.
They will be joined by Guatemala who defeated Guadeloupe 3-2 in the other group C game to advance.
