Group B action in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup delivered drama and decisive moments on Saturday night, as Honduras grabbed a crucial 2-0 win over El Salvador and Curaçao stunned Canada with a stoppage-time equalizer to earn a 1-1 draw. Both matches were played at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston and have now set up a tense final round of group-stage games.
After opening their campaign with a defeat, Honduras bounced back emphatically with a composed 2-0 victory over Central American rivals El Salvador.
Romell Quioto broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute, finishing calmly to the far post after being picked out by Edwin Rodríguez. El Salvador nearly responded before the break, but Brayan Gil’s delicate chip in the 41st minute floated just over the bar.
With El Salvador pushing forward late in the game in search of an equalizer, Honduras capitalized on the counter. Substitute Dixon Ramírez sealed the win deep into stoppage time, firing home in the 90’+5’ to secure all three points for Los Catrachos.
The win lifts Honduras to three points, reigniting their hopes of progressing to the knockout rounds ahead of a crucial clash with Curaçao in San Jose on Tuesday.
In the earlier fixture, Canada appeared to be in control for long stretches but were punished late as Curaçao battled back to earn a 1-1 draw, keeping their own hopes of advancement alive.
Nathan Saliba gave the Canadians an early lead in the 9th minute, slotting home from the center of the box to cap a bright start for The Reds. Canada pushed for a second, with Tani Oluwaseyi testing Curaçao goalkeeper Eloy Room in the 35th, but the veteran stopper stood tall.
Curaçao steadily grew into the game and nearly equalized just before halftime through Jürgen Locadia, whose left-footed effort whistled wide.
The equalizer finally came in dramatic fashion. In the 90’+4’, Joshua Zimmerman slipped a perfectly weighted pass behind the Canadian backline to Jeremy Antonisse, who coolly beat Dayne St. Clair to rescue a point for the Caribbean side.
Cyle Larin had a golden chance to restore Canada’s lead moments later, but Room produced another outstanding save to preserve the draw.
With the dust settling on Saturday’s doubleheader, all four teams remain in contention heading into Tuesday’s final matchday. Canada and El Salvador will meet again in Houston, while Honduras and Curaçao face off in San Jose. Only the top two teams will move on to the quarterfinals, setting up a thrilling finish to Group B.
