Newly appointed Managing Director of Mount Pleasant Football Academy (MPFA), Charlie Methven, says his mission is to build on the remarkable foundation already in place and help the Jamaican-based club soar to even greater heights.
Methven, a seasoned sports executive with a resume that spans some of the world's top sporting institutions, was officially unveiled by the St Ann-based club on Monday. His appointment marks a significant move by Mount Pleasant as it seeks to solidify its reputation as the Caribbean’s leading football development hub.
"Mount Pleasant is a truly visionary project with immense potential. My goal is to build on the incredible progress already made and work with the strong leadership team to take this club to even greater heights," Methven said.
Methven arrives with an impressive track record, having served as CEO of Charlton Athletic and Executive Director of Sunderland AFC. He also advised global sporting giants such as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, and beyond English football, he had stints with McLaren F1, the Bahrain Grand Prix, and the Qatari government during preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Mount Pleasant's owner, Peter Gould, welcomed Methven with high expectations, as he pointed out that the move reflects the club’s commitment to continuous professional growth, especially in youth development and commercial expansion.
"Over the past six years, we have been committed to elevating our football operations to the highest professional standards. Bringing in Charlie Methven, a seasoned international sports executive, marks another major step in our journey," Gould shared.
Meanwhile, Paul Christie, Sporting Director of MPFA, believes Methven’s arrival signals an exciting new chapter for the club.
"Charlie’s arrival reaffirms our dedication to excellence. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue shaping the future of this exceptional club," Christie noted.
