Celtic were holding out for extra time against Bayern Munich, until Alphonso Davies bundled home in the closing seconds on Tuesday.

Alphonso Davies snatched a last-minute equaliser to seal a 1-1 draw with Celtic and send Bayern Munich into the Champions League last 16 with a 3-2 aggregate win.

Davies bundled home deep in second-half stoppage time at the Allianz Arena, where Nicholas Kuhn put the visitors ahead in the 63rd minute.

Bayern, 2-1 victors at Celtic Park last week, got lucky earlier on as Brendan Rodgers' team saw several glorious chances pass them by - Callum McGregor going close, Kuhn having a header cleared off the line and Daizen Maeda dragging wide.

Harry Kane nearly made Bayern's luck count when he struck the crossbar on the stroke of half-time, though that was his final involvement, with Vincent Kompany taking the England captain, who was an injury doubt ahead of the match, off at the interval.

Bayern upped the pressure after the break but, against the run of play, Kuhn slotted in after capitalising on some defensive mistakes.

Yet with extra time beckoning, a Leon Goretzka header was parried out by Kasper Schmeichel, with Davies on hand to block Cameron Carter-Vickers' attempted clearance and force the ball over the line.

Bayern's goal, timed at 93 minutes and 12 seconds, was the club's latest equaliser in a Champions League match (excluding extra time) since at least 2003-04, when Opta's records began.

The Bundesliga leaders remain unbeaten against Scottish opposition on home soil in major European competition (P11 W7 D4). Meanwhile, Celtic have failed to win any of their 16 away games against German teams (D4 L12).

They were far from convincing, but Bayern have now reached the Champions League last 16 in each of the past 17 seasons, and in each of their last 21 appearances in the competition.
